Pro Hairdresser Guide To Doing A 'Butterfly Cut' At Home 04/16/2023

I gave myself a butterfly cut at home using Brad Mondo's tutorial and followed his instructions precisely. From my experience, it works well for curly hair, as it added volume and layers. However, I believe the end result ultimately depends on personal preference. I would caution against cutting too much hair, especially when dealing with curly hair. Additionally, it's best to use scissors specifically designed for cutting hair.

I had the opportunity to try Carina Organics' Sweet Pea Shampoo, a natural and organic hair care product that claims to be moisturizing. The brand stands out from others by committing to using natural and organic ingredients, avoiding harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and artificial preservatives. Instead, they utilize ingredients such as chamomile, lavender, and peppermint to nourish and protect hair.

The shampoo has a pleasant and refreshing floral scent, and it lathers well. However, as someone with naturally curly, high porosity hair, I found that it did not provide enough moisture. Unfortunately, the shampoo left my hair feeling dry and frizzy, even after conditioning. I realized that a hydrating conditioner alone was not enough to combat hair dryness. I really need my moisture in every product! The packaging does state that it is for normal hair, curly hair tends to be dry and requires an extra level of hydration, so I guess it’s my fault hehe.

Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend this shampoo if your hair needs a lot of moisture and protein (this shampoo doesn’t have protein, which is rarely the case for curly hair care products). Maybe it might be great for someone with fine or low porosity hair, seeing that it doesn’t contain protein? Additionally, individuals who frequently use heat styling tools, chemical treatments, or color their hair may also benefit from a protein-free shampoo as these processes can cause hair to become protein-sensitive. As for me, I will be giving the rest of my bottle to a friend with straight hair who might benefit from it. So even though this shampoo might not be targeted towards curly-haired people, if you thought about buying this product, I hope you can benefit from my review! Please let us know if you have tried this product before in the comments. Ok, bye!

Can I use heat on my hair while following the Curly Girl Method?

Heat styling and curly hair often don't mix well. High temperatures can dehydrate the curls, causing frizz, breakage, and altering their natural shape. And that's why the Curly Girl Method emphasizes avoiding heat styling. But, let's be honest, we all have those special events or just personal preferences that make us want to straighten our curls once in a while. So, is there a way to still follow the Curly Girl Method principles and use heat?

The answer is yes! First of all, using heat-protectant products, like serums or sprays, before applying heat can create a barrier and reduce damage to your curls. And when it comes to the heat source, a tool with adjustable temperature settings is key. Opt for low to medium heat instead of cranking it up to the highest setting. A third option is to opt for heat-free straitening tools.

Why is it a bad idea to go to bed with wet hair and what kind of damage can it cause for your hair and overall well-being?

Sleeping with wet hair can be detrimental to the overall health and appearance of your hair. There are several reasons why it is not recommended to go to bed with wet hair. I can't believe I've been doing that for most of my teenage years!

First, wet hair is more fragile and prone to breakage. When hair is wet, the cuticles (the outermost layer of the hair strand) are raised, making it more vulnerable to damage. This means that when you toss and turn in bed, your wet hair is more likely to snap and break.

Second, wet hair can lead to frizz and tangling. When hair is wet, it is more likely to become matted and tangled, which can cause frizz and damage when you wake up in the morning.

Third, sleeping with wet hair can lead to scalp issues. When hair is wet, it can trap moisture against the scalp, which can lead to dandruff, itchiness and even fungal infections.

Is Clarifying Your Hair Monthly Necessary in the Curly Girl Method?

Clarifying the hair is an important step in the Curly Girl Method. The build-up of product, hard water mineral, and environmental factors can leave hair looking dull, lifeless and can cause itching and flaking. Therefore, clarifying your hair once a month is necessary to remove this build-up and to ensure that hair care products can effectively pe*****te the hair shaft, leaving the hair healthy and bouncy.
