ASL, there’s always so much more to learn!
If there’s ever a sign I’m unsure about, one really easy and accessible resource I use is a website called Handspeak. You can type in the word you’re having trouble with and find videos showing you how to sign it correctly.
One thing I personally really struggle with is fluidity. Because I’m dyslexic, I have a hard time shutting my brain off and just letting the signs flow naturally. Fingerspelling is especially challenging for me because it sometimes takes my brain an extra second to process each letter and register what’s being said.
It’s all part of learning, and I’m constantly practicing, improving, and becoming more comfortable with ASL 🤟🏽✨

The final result vs. the inspo 🖤🤍
I’ve been challenging myself lately to step outside of the box and create sets that I normally wouldn’t, and this was definitely one of those times. Something I’ve struggled with for quite some time is perfecting my spikes and building up that texture, so I’ve really been pushing myself to practice and experiment more.
This was actually my second attempt at this look. The first time around, I wasn’t happy with the spikes. They were way too thin, didn’t give me the texture I was looking for, and overall I was just underwhelmed with how they turned out. Instead of leaving it there, I wanted to try again, make some changes, and get closer to what I had envisioned.
This is also exactly why I think offering discounted or complimentary model sets is so important when learning or perfecting a new technique. It gives me the opportunity to experiment, make adjustments, figure out what works (and what doesn’t), and continue building my skills without expecting a client to pay full price while I’m still working through the technique.
An overall skill I’ve always wanted to have is the ability to hand make everything I use in my sets. Whether it’s a fluffy fan or a perfectly defined spike, I love being able to create each piece myself rather than relying on premades. It’s something I’m constantly working toward and challenging myself to improve.
Definitely still learning, tweaking & perfecting, but I’m so happy with how this one came together!

September is National Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and this one will always hit a little differently for me.
If you know me, you know what I stand for, and you know how much of that comes back to my best friend, Paige. She is a huge part of the reason I am where I am today. She’s part of what pushed me toward the industry I’m in, the way I care for people, and the kind of space I try to create for everyone who sits in my chair.
I’ve lost more friends to su***de than I’d ever like to admit, but Paige was not one of them. Her life was taken by someone else’s hands, and losing her significantly changed the course of my life.
Today, she should’ve been 28.
Instead, I’ve had to grow up without her. I’ve had to reach birthdays, milestones, and versions of myself that she never got the chance to reach. And after losing her, there was a long time where I didn’t want to reach them either. I genuinely believed 19 might be as far as I ever made it.
But somehow, life kept moving. And so did I.
Today, I’m 29. I’ve lived an entire decade I once couldn’t picture for myself. A decade full of people, places, love, heartbreak, laughter, growth, and moments I never would’ve gotten to experience if my story had ended where I thought it would.
I’ve always been open about my disabilities, my mental health, and my grief because I never want anyone around me to feel like they have to hide the difficult parts of themselves. No topic of conversation is ever off the table with me.
Whether you need me to hear you, sit with you, make you laugh, or simply give you a space where you can exist for a little while, you are welcome here. Sometimes healing looks like talking about everything. Sometimes it looks like saying nothing at all.
So this is your reminder to stay.
Stay for the version of you that you haven’t met yet. Stay for the people you haven’t loved yet. Stay for the memories you haven’t made yet.
I hope you heal from the things you don’t talk about. And I hope you get to meet every version of yourself you once thought you’d never become 💜
