Another great few days advocating for Paramedics and Dispatchers at UBCM. This is a great opportunity to showcase our members, the work we do and present our ideas to leaders from across B.C.

BCEHS has left these 76 communities without their Community Paramedic resources — while redirecting more than $9 million from the program’s budget elsewhere.

Rural, remote and Indigenous communities deserve better. Community Paramedicine is worth fighting for.

Please see APBC’s media release regarding the ongoing dismantling of Community Paramedicine across B.C. According to APBC’s current data, BCEHS has allowed 76 of 101 Community Paramedic positions to remain vacant and redirected approximately $9 million in program funding elsewhere within BCEHS. Rather than restoring these positions, BCEHS is now proposing further changes to the few Community Paramedic positions that remain.

These decisions are eroding access to preventative, community-based health care, particularly in rural, remote and Indigenous communities. At a time when B.C.’s health-care system is already under enormous pressure, BCEHS should be strengthening programs that help prevent emergencies — not hollowing them out to address pressures elsewhere in the ambulance system.
