Sclerotherapy is an established treatment for spider veins (telangiectasias) and selected small superficial veins.

During treatment, a sclerosant solution is injected directly into the targeted vein. The solution causes controlled irritation of the vein’s inner lining, leading to fibrosis and closure of the treated vessel. Over time, the body naturally breaks down and reabsorbs the treated vein.

Results are gradual, and multiple treatment sessions may be recommended depending on the number, size, and distribution of the veins being treated.

A proper assessment is important to determine whether sclerotherapy is appropriate and whether any underlying venous disease should be evaluated first.
