Remembrance Day was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.—on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
Poppies are considered a symbol of Remembrance Day. In 1921, for the first time - poppies were laid on the battlefields of Belgium and Poland. This is a piece of art I made for my dad Victor P Smith Lt Col (Ret) and mom Madeleine. 'Poppies' made with bits of ripped up paper and old sheet music glued together.
