As this month marks 5 years of ElectroFacial YXE, I’ve been wondering how or even if I should acknowledge the anniversary. ElectroFacial YXE started out of my need for a positive space all while not being available to continually work overtime. I knew I needed a safe space where character, integrity and compassion were not invisible or an inconvenience. They matter.

Almost a year ago, one of my first clients passed away suddenly. I was shocked, saddened and thought of her family I knew from a distance. She was so supportive, witty and kind. We spent our short visits discussing family, state of healthcare, politics and beekeeping. I have missed her. And then this week, I received a phone call.

The client’s husband called. He wanted to make sure I knew the sad news of his wife’s passing last year. He said she always spoke of our visits, how much she enjoyed them and appreciated our time together. I was stunned that in his grief, he thought to reach out to me. I wanted to ask if he’d been back to the south of France, if he enjoyed the World Cup and how his knee was healing. But I didn’t. The room is a safe place. I simply said through a cracking voice, “she was so special. Thank you for calling. I really appreciate it.”

When I disconnected, I burst into tears. My client was so lovely; her husband so gracious. He didn’t have to call.

And that is five years. I have built the space I needed and wanted. My Plan B is now me.

If you are where I was five years ago, trust me, your Plan B will work out. It will be more of a reflection of who you are because you’ve taken the time to craft what matters to you. The people you will meet along the way are worth it and so are you.
