Thinking of starting grey blending? Here are some important things to note!

1) what you’ve been using on your hair matters. If you’ve been dying your roots black for 20 years you will have a longer/more expensive journey and your hair will have to endure more processing.

2) you have to be ready. I like to make clients wait until they have about 4 inches of regrowth. Not only does this let me find my pattern but it also grows past the initial stage where they would cover and gives them an idea of how it would feel. It’s a large investment and you don’t want to rush in if you aren’t ready. You can also grow it out on your own and book in to customize the brightness which is more budget/hair health friendly and I actually recommend. Sometimes it just needs more intentionality and balance.

3) the appointments are long and the results aren’t guaranteed. It can take multiple appointments and patience. I literally follow and weave every little silver strand. It’s important to do a strand test and to understand that sometimes it’s not about a perfect grey match it’s about blending dimension so they aren’t as prominent.

4) you still have to tone it as it grows out. Your hair will need tones to maintain as it grows! The goal is less maintenance to little/no maintenance over time but at first it will be a lot.

5) the more length you lose the quicker your journey will be. Not only will your roots catch up with your ends faster but your longest strands hold the most hair history and are the hardest to lift out. Sometimes they just refuse to lift to your desired level.

6) your hair will feel different. If you’ve never lightened your hair you will notice that bleach processed hair requires more love. This doesn’t mean we are frying it off your head, this means you are undergoing a very large chemical service and your hair will change. Keep up with tones, haircuts, and at home care.

7) you won’t regret it. I think of it as a big investment for future you. I don’t get to see my grey blended clients as much anymore, but it’s also beautiful to see someone embrace their age and rock it instead of hiding it. You should be proud of every silver strand.
