🔥 Wildfire Ash Falling Into Your Pool? Here’s What You Need to Know.

Forest fire ash is highly alkaline and can raise your pool’s pH and Total Alkalinity, reduce chlorine effectiveness and leave your water cloudy. Ash may also introduce phosphates that can contribute to algae growth.

How to Recover Your Pool

1. Do not swim: Avoid using the pool until the pH and sanitizer levels are balanced and the water is clear.

2. Remove debris: Manually scoop out ash and floating debris. Do not rely on an automatic pool cleaner, as fine ash can clog it.

3. Clean the filter: Backwash or chemically clean your pool filter to remove fine ash buildup.

4. Test & Balance: Frequently test your water. You will likely need to add a pool acid (like muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate) to lower your pH back into the ideal range of 7.2 to 7.8.

Manage Phosphates & Chlorine: Because ash eats up chlorine and introduces algae-feeding phosphates, you should shock the pool and use a Phosphate Remover to get ahead of potential algae blooms.
