You may have heard the terms anti-wrinkle injection treatment or neurotoxin, but did you know that there are 4 different types of neurotoxins that are Health Canada approved? The ones approved are Botox (yes, this is a brand 😏), Dysport, Xeomin and Nuceiva.

At AMAR, we offer the choice of Dysport or Nuceiva to clients 💉But what is the difference and which one should you use? 🤔

All these products are derivatives of the neuromodulator Botulinum Toxin A, which temporarily blocks nerves that cause your facial muscles to contract and make certain facial expressions.

Dysport is similar to Botox as they both contain additives in their formulations but differ in potency levels. That means one would need more units of Dysport compared to Botox to get the same results (1 unit of Botox = 3 units of Dysport). However, Dysport has a higher rate of diffusion, which makes it ideal for treating larger areas such as the frown lines. Also, the results from Dysport may be seen sooner (24 hours) compared to the other brands.

Nuceiva was the most recent brand to be approved by Health Canada and has the closest formulation to Botox but unlike Botox, it is solely used for cosmetic purposes while Botox can be used for medical reasons as well (for example, excessive sweating and migraines). Results from Nuceiva can be seen in 3-5 days.

Essentially, all of these products do the same thing but are just formulated differently and depending on your concerns and results from past treatments, we are happy to help guide you towards the best neurotoxin option for you.
