Two really cute bumblebees today, the first a Hunt’s Bumble by Ang Smb Carthy, the second a Yellowhead on my neighbour Joanna’s flowers.

What an amazing swarm capture this evening in east Strathcona County.
Thank you Trista and Skyler. And also thanks to Len Schofield for sending me on this adventure.
The last point I was making was that the outer layer of swarm bees arrange themselves like shingles on a roof during heavy rainfall, allowing water to shed off and keeping the bees dry underneath.
Update: the bees are safe and warm inside a box in my main yard. I was reminded again that bees are cranky when it’s later in the day and overcast. This was a spicy 🌶️ hive to put in hive boxes.

This ‘lil bee accompanied me back from a swarm pickup today. Her wings are tattered from nectar gathering.

Well this is a first! A swarm showed up on my property and settled directly in an unused hive box. It was awesome to see the mass of bees descending.
The bees were not from my own hives, a neighbour said they flew over his place.
Even more interesting, Clinton Torkelson was paying me a visit. Clint is homeowner who has a swarm every year to pick up.
Do bee swarms hear Clint approaching and go to him? 😃😆

Demonstration of a wild bee hive capture at 7 pm, 10 minutes from now!
These “bees” disappointed the homeowner because he wasn’t getting any honey from them. Only a load of mean attitude!
I collected this lovely paper wasp nest and it is now nestled in a natural area somewhere west of Fort Sask.
