Dear Sooke,

I’ve started this letter about ten different times, and no matter what I write, it never feels like enough.

How do you thank an entire community?

When we started this fundraiser, we simply hoped to raise a little money for the Sooke Food Bank. Never in a million years did we imagine we’d be sitting here saying…

Together, we raised $9,753.75.

That number is incredible, but if I’m being honest, it isn’t what I’ll remember most.

I’ll remember the people.

I’ll remember the smiles, the donations, the shared posts, the hot dogs, the honks as people drove by, and the countless times someone asked, “How can I help?”

I’ll remember a community showing up for one another.

That’s Sooke.

People always talk about how beautiful Sooke is, and they’re right. We have the ocean, the forests, and incredible views.

But what truly makes this place special is its people.

Owning Bristle & Brush Hair Studio has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Our clients stopped feeling like clients a long time ago—they became friends, family, and the reason our salon feels like home.

To my incredible team—Kyle, Jude, Penny, and Shelli—thank you for pouring your hearts into this fundraiser. I couldn’t be prouder.

To Cheryl, thank you. Your courage, kindness, and selflessness inspired this entire fundraiser. Even while facing your own battle, you continued thinking about others. It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to stand beside you.

To the volunteers at the Sooke Food Bank, thank you for everything you do for our community.

To the local businesses who supported us—Ukee Poke, The Pourhouse, Bad Dog Brewery, Downtown V**e, The Sooke Sweet Shoppe, Gadget Tree, Ocean Breeze Drywall, and everyone else who donated or helped behind the scenes—thank you for believing in this cause.

A special thank you to Kevin Pearson, Sooke First’s mayoral candidate, for taking the time to stop by and support our fundraiser. Thank you for believing in our small business, encouraging our community, and showing up when it mattered. Your support meant a great deal to us.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen exactly what that means.

I’ve lived in different places throughout my life, but I’ve never truly felt like I belonged until Sooke.

This isn’t just where I live.

This is home.
