𝗦𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝟯𝟬 | 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

Dear SICWS Community,

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the Survivors, families, and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history. We acknowledge the grief that endures across generations and the courage of those who have shared their truths.

At Sisters In Canada Wellness Society, we often speak about belonging, community, and the meaning of home. This day invites us to reflect more deeply on what it means to build our lives on Indigenous lands. While our own stories of migration and settlement are important, so too is our responsibility to learn the histories, cultures, and ongoing realities of the First Peoples who have cared for these lands since time immemorial.

Reconciliation is not a destination or a single act. It is an ongoing commitment to listen to Indigenous voices, confront difficult truths, and translate learning into meaningful action. It asks each of us to consider how we can contribute to more respectful relationships and a more just future.

As we mark September 30, let us to pause and reflect: What have I learned? Whose voices am I listening to? What actions will I take moving forward?

At SICWS, we remain committed to learning, relationship-building, and carrying this responsibility into the work we do alongside the communities we serve.

You do not have to erase where you came from to make room for where you are now. 💛

For many immigrant women, home holds old memories, new relationships, and the communities we continue to build in Canada.

This year, Safe Haven 2026: Home Is Here will be bigger, bringing newcomer and long-settled immigrant women together for a full day of practical guidance, honest conversations and meaningful connection.
