Pain isn't always where it seems to be coming from. One common example of this is in spinal radiculopathies. The pain occurs when a nerve exiting the spine is irritated, causing pain, numbness, or tingling that travels into an arm or leg. This pain often feels sharp, electric, or shooting.

A Massage therapist can help by providing manual therapy and movement exercises, improving muscle tension and comfort by giving you the tools you need to manage your symptoms.

Contact us at Level Wellness when you're ready to address that lingering stiffness or traveling discomfort.

Conditions like mechanical neck or low back pain are often caused by stiffness, stress, or poor movement patterns.

For mechanical discomfort, reducing muscle tension and improving movement can often help resolve symptoms.

Even with structural changes like osteoarthritis, massage therapy may help you keep moving by easing surrounding muscle guarding, managing pain, and improving range of motion.

Is stiffness limiting your day? Massage therapy may help manage the discomfort, restore flexibility, and bring ease back to your daily function!

Nerve compression can happen when nerves are irritated by surrounding muscles, fascia, or tight spaces in the body. This can cause numbness, tingling, burning, or aching sensations, such as in carpal tunnel or thigh numbness from tight clothing.

Massage therapy does not treat nerves directly, but it can reduce tension around them, improve mobility, and help relieve contributing soft tissue restrictions.

Let us know if you're feeling any of these sensations.

Myofascial pain commonly causes soreness in the body coming from tight, overworked muscles and connective tissue. Commonly affected areas include neck and low back, but it can occur anywhere—including shoulders, hips, legs, and even the face. This discomfort is often tied to "trigger points," which may cause pain locally or refer it to entirely different areas of the body.

For instance, tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back can frequently contribute to headaches. Pressing on these areas can activate pain via trigger points, which can cause pain locally or refer elsewhere. Massage therapy is particularly good at relieving these symptoms. For example, trigger points in the suboccipital, upper trapezius, sternocleidomastoid, and splenii muscles frequently contribute to headaches and neck pain, which can be treated and relieved with massage techniques.

Massage therapy treats myofascial pain by releasing tension, improving tissue mobility, and helping muscles return to normal function.

👉 If muscle knots or tightness keep coming back, targeted massage work may help break the cycle.

Overuse injuries can happen when tissues are stressed repeatedly without enough recovery time. Whether from a demanding job, a busy household, or a workout routine, flare-ups in the shoulders, wrists, or knees usually build gradually and worsen with activity. As massage therapists, we know these conditions well—the key is managing the strain before it becomes a long-term issue.

To manage flare-ups:
🔹 Stop the Strain Cycle: Don't wait for the pain to "shout." Address pain and discomfort when it first appears.
🔹 Modify your Movement: Small modifications in how you hold a tool or perform a lift can give tissues the break they need.
🔹Soft Tissue Support: Massage therapy can help reduce tension and support your return to activity through managed, progressive loading.

💬 Have questions about a recurring ache? Ask your therapist during your next visit about how to modify your daily movements to support your recovery.

Sometimes, pain is a little more stubborn than your average ache and pain. Conditions like fibromyalgia, low back pain, chronic headaches, and jaw pain can overlap because they involve a sensitive nervous system rather than just one injured area.

This kind of pain can feel:

🔹 Widespread & persistent
🔹 Unpredictable
🔹 Affected by stress, lack of sleep, and daily demands

How massage therapy helps:
Instead of just "fixing" a muscle, we focus on calming the nervous system, reducing muscle tension, and improving your body awareness. Every treatment is tailored to your specific needs and tolerance levels for that day.

If you live with ongoing pain, massage therapy can be a powerful tool to help regulate your system and support your comfort.
