For years, there was a yellow bike outside Yellow Gazebo. But it wasn’t actually ours.

Back when we were at 804 St. Clair, someone left an old bike chained to the city bike post outside the clinic. It stayed there so long that it slowly became more and more worn down.

Then someone suggested I paint it yellow. So I did. And somehow, that forgotten old bike became part of Yellow Gazebo.

We put flowers in the basket. Pumpkins in the fall. It sat through more than a few Toronto winters. People regularly told us how much they liked it, and some even used the yellow bike as a landmark to find us.

Eventually, though, it was showing its age. We asked the city to remove it, and after a few years, one day it was finally gone.

Looking back, the timing feels strangely fitting.

In 2022, Yellow Gazebo expanded next door into 802. Then, only a year later, we left our longtime home at 804 and opened our new space at 840.

Those two years transformed the clinic. And somewhere around that chapter of change, our little yellow landmark disappeared too.

It’s funny how something that started as an abandoned bike can become part of the story of a place.

I still miss seeing it out there.

Ever feel like your shoulders are doing all the work?

In this exercise, Alice uses the ball to help her patient work on core stability, shoulder blade control and getting some of those other postural muscles involved, instead of relying so heavily on the upper traps.

And as her patient demonstrates, it can look very different when you first start.

Sometimes progress is simply teaching your body a better way to do the work.

Fall, in Trellis, is about reflection.

It’s easy to look at something that didn’t go the way we hoped and decide we failed. We weren’t disciplined enough. We fell off. We should have done better.

But reflection gives us a different way to look at it.

What worked? What didn’t? What got in the way? What did we learn about ourselves?

Sometimes moving forward starts with understanding where we’ve been.

That’s Fall.

Turns out, getting my spine where we want it means doing some work at home too.

In this part of My Spine Project, Dr. Sarah Kamiel walks me through my home-care equipment and explains how each piece connects back to what she’s seeing in my spine.

Now comes the harder part: actually doing my homework.

A few last moments from the trip.

Icelandic shark, Scotland, surfing in Rotterdam, some remarkable buildings, Amsterdam canals, art, windmills and a lot in between.

There was far too much to fit into a few posts, which is probably a good sign.

An incredible couple of weeks. And now, back home.

"Summer" isn't about pushing harder just because you can.

In Trellis, "Summer" is what happens when there's enough capacity to reach a little further.

More movement. More challenge. More connection. More life.

But knowing when you're ready for Summer, and what growth should actually look like, isn't always obvious.

That's where the seasons start to become useful.

Some of the people we met along the way.

Most of them we’ll never see again.

I think there’s something pretty great about that - meeting strangers.

We spend a lot of time thinking about the relationships closest to us.

But travelling has reminded me that there’s another kind of connection that matters too.

The conversation with someone you’ll never meet again. A smile from someone passing by. A few words exchanged while you’re waiting for something.

These interactions might be brief, but they connect us to the world around us.

Maybe we need strangers more than we realize.

An MRI showed a tear in the back portion of this patient's medial meniscus.

But the finding is only part of the story. Here, Yang works with his patient on a single-leg bridge to load the hamstrings and glutes, while keeping the knee controlled throughout the movement.

And when the exercise becomes easier? Progression doesn’t always mean adding more weight. Sometimes a pause and a little more control are enough to make an exercise significantly harder.

This is what individualized rehab can look like: understand what’s going on, choose the right starting point, then gradually build from there.

A few different colours from the beginning of our trip.

Reykjavík, the start of the cruise, and apparently a few different versions of me along the way.
