We are often asked — “What is the difference between lip blushing and lip neutralization?” While the services do share many similarities, lip neutralization requires a higher degree of permanent makeup technical knowledge. Lip neutralization applies a thorough understanding of colour theory to change unwanted tones in the lip. This is why you’ll notice that many artists must specialize in this treatment as it requires extra trainings, knowledge and special care. For instance, if the lips display a purple tone we must apply a pigment with a yellow base (mixed in a natural pink colour) and if they appear more blue, an orange based pigment (also mixed into pink) will correct this. We always strive to create the most natural results.

We use an advanced permanent shading technique called Powder Ombré Brows that results in a soft, powdery finish that wears well with or without makeup. Brow colours are customized to match individual skin tone and hair colour, and brow shape is determined with unique facial features in mind.

Lip Neutralization is a specialized form of Lip Blushing where we apply a curated composition of pigments based on colour theory to offset darker tones (eumelanin) in lips. Immediately post-appointment the lips will appear quite vibrant as seen here, but will settle into a soft, pinkish hue once healed. It’s not uncommon to need 2-5 sessions spaced 12-weeks apart to reach the desired outcome.

Our clients are often shocked when their freshly done lips are really bright and after a few short days the colour fades up to 60%, and in some cases, can appear as though nothing was even done. As the dermis and epidermis heal, the skin thickens and will briefly conceal the ink. Once the cells in the skin repair itself fully (after around 4-6 weeks) and the colour settles, the ink will become visible again and return to your beautiful desired lip shade.
