Health Canada has officially approved generic versions of semaglutide — and this could be a major step forward for accessibility.
For many people, the biggest barrier to GLP-1 medications has been cost, especially when they’re being used as part of a longer-term health strategy, whether at a full therapeutic dose or through a more individualized microdosing approach.
While exact pricing is still unknown, experts are estimating potential savings anywhere from 30–50%, with some projections as high as 75% as more generic options enter the market.
So when will they be widely available? Likely not immediately. With demand expected to be high, broader access may not happen until mid-summer to early fall.
