- my darling roommate gave me the challenge of making her mid 2000’s dream hair from her all over light blue dyed hair and tbh even Cruella De Vil would be jealous - don’t worry though already has a fur coat of her own ✨

I wanted to show and talk about the journey to removing box dye // becoming blonde before anyone thinks about hitting up the drug store in these odd times 🚫🥺

-1.5 years ago I started the corrective adventure to get from her dark brown hair to a beautiful blonde.
Problem❓
❕Previously dyed hair half henna red and half black box dye❕

-Black box dye has many unknown pigments inside so as it may have looked faded, it was still holding onto the cuticle making the hair lift slower.

-Some henna dyes you can’t put bleach on the hair after it’s been dyed with henna due to its unpredictability and ability to change colour (ex. Go a brighter orange/red than originally) but after some research and a strand test, we were good to go.

-The henna lifted much warmer and faster than the box dye which was expected so being aware of what developers to use is crucial to maintaining the hairs integrity and getting both sides of her head even again.

-Photo #2 shows the difference of lift in the first two rounds before toning; henna⬅️/box dye➡️

-Consulting is crucial in these kind of hair transformations as they take time to start seeing the desired results as the first two sessions to ensure the hair is even, I toned with a 6A toner to also cancel out the warmth.

-After the third session (photo #4) we worked up closer to the root as the hair was lifting evenly now, adding more depth and brightness.

-Photo #5 is the current blonde achievement from our most recent session together in July, moving closer to the root at a higher foil density and thanks to her home maintenance that blonde is still looking amazing *chefs kiss*
