Jumping out of bed in the morning and spending a few quiet moments in the backyard is one of my favourite things to do in summer.
Getting out in nature and appreciating the beauty that surrounds me, helps to relieve stress, lower blood pressure and stress hormones, clear my mind, boost my mood and immune system, support my microbiome (thereby improving digestion and probably everything else) and can also help to slow down a racing mind.
All for free.
Hope you can enjoy your dose of nature today too.

I’m Diane Murphy, Nutritionist for women who are living with or recovering from breast cancer. One of the first things I help her to do, is to try her hand at juicing if she hasn't done it before.
Why start with juicing?
Developing habits are key for a sustainable nutrition plan. Jumping in with both feet and doing EVERYTHING at the start can get incredibly overwhelming so I pick juicing to start, if she’s ready for it.
Our goal is to help saturate her healthy cells with loads of nutrients….QUICKLY.
Cancer thrives in a nutrient deficient body and a lack of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc. leave the cells less able to repair themselves against damage from medications, treatment, environmental toxins, diet, stress and of course cancer itself.
While throwing the veggies in a blender and making a smoothie can be very nutritious, the fibre in the veggies (plus additional protein and healthy fat) will fill her up too fast. She can get more from her juice. She doesn’t lose out on the fibre, she just eats it later on in the day.
What does she juice?
The general rule of thumb is to EAT fruit and JUICE veggies. Some great veggies to start with that aren't usually too gassy (like cabbage can be) are cucumbers, celery, carrots, beets (and the beet greens), kale, spinach, fresh turmeric and fresh ginger. However, green apples are low glycemic and add a really nice flavour.
How much does she juice?
This depends if she has active cancer or not, if she is in the middle of treatment or not, does she have an appetite or not…so we work this out together.
If you know anyone who would benefit from this info, please share. If you are trying to reduce your risk of cancer or cancer recurrence, or need more energy, better sleep, healthier hair, skin, nails, body....juicing is a great strategy.

Toronto, June 16-18, 2023. Full days, full of progressive and intense information.
Looking so forward to connecting with like-minded people who are also trying to help close the massive gap between the conventional and alternative healthcare systems when it comes to cancer care and recovery. These 2 worlds aren't mutually exclusive and can really benefit from advocating for their patients and working together.
So I'm putting the gym on hold this weekend and working out my brain.
I'm so fortunate and so excited to be attending this conference right here in Toronto this weekend!
Stay tuned...

Bloodwork is always nice to see, especially when it’s stabilizing or going in the right direction, but that’s not always available.
My favourite measure of progress is how she feels when she starts implementing powerful, whole food strategies, especially if she has undergone conventional treatment.
I love it when she can begin feel her quality of life improving because her:
Energy is going up
Joints are less achy
Mind is clearer
Sleep is better
Hair and nails are growing stronger
Skin is clearing up
Feelings of stress are not so intense
When she can feel progress, she can do more. She can drive her car, go for a walk, and make her own food. She can be a mom, which is everything to her. She is more empowered when she feels better and is more ready to do what she needs to do in a day.
I’ve seen many, many different and amazing health transformations in my 15 years as a Nutritionist. My clients didn’t need piles and piles of money or need to eat “weird, hard to find foods”, what she needed was a strong will to thrive, a genuine desire to make changes and a dedicated, knowledgeable, experienced person to guide and hold her hand through it.
And that’s who I am and that's what I do.
If you are living with or recovering from breast cancer, click here and book a free 30 minute call with me https://calendly.com/dianemurphy/chat-with-nutritionist-diane-murphy and we can figure out your next obvious step, because that’s all you need to know right now.
Don’t wait and don’t overthink it, just book the call.

The microbiome is made up of trillions of microbes that communicate with our digestive system and our immune system.
The state of our gut microbiome powerfully influences our overall health, but there is little to no discussion in mainstream medicine or media on how to support this remarkable feature that makes up such a large part of us.
Sooo how do we support this eco system of microflora that makes up our microbiome which can make us feel really great or really awful, depending on how we take care of it?
Well….we feed it. And we feed it well.
We feed it with live PROBIOTIC foods like yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha or PREBIOTIC foods (special fibre that helps healthy gut bacteria to grow) found in onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus, chicory root (think Dandy Blend coffee alternative), mushrooms, Jerusalem Artichokes (or “Fartichokes” as my kids call them around here), dandelion greens and whole grains.

The lymphatic system, which contains white blood cells, is a big part of our immune system. It keeps waste moving out of our body, helps us to fight infection and gets rid of cancer cells.
Deep breathing and staying hydrated are great ways to keep the lymph (fluid) flowing nicely and of course, exercise. Cancer likes stagnancy so keeping your body moving throughout the day is something to get started on if you haven’t already.
It doesn’t have to be hard and you don’t have to sign up to a gym. I have a mini-trampoline that I got off of Amazon for under $150.00 that sits behind my office chair. I squeeze in a little 5 minute bounce between calls. This is a good one if your meds are making your joints achy because you can sit and do it, or if you do stand, your feet don’t actually need to leave the trampoline.
Just do what you can do.
Getting outside for a walk everyday is awesome for many reasons. Personally, I listen to Abraham Hicks, or a Chris Beat Cancer podcast, or my favourite Bruce Springsteen songs and just go. Some people prefer not to listen to anything.
It doesn't have to be long and labour intensive. Make it easy and enjoyable.
20 minutes is better than nothing.
Keep things flowing and ... just move.
Yes, there are even foods for poor air quality!
