Happy Father's Day to this handsome devil. So glad we got to spend the day with you sitting in the sun, solving the world's problems, having a great meal, and losing at cribbage to mom and Marcelo. Love you Dad!

So I've been working on a project these last few months as a birthday gift for my mother in law Maureen.
Years ago my late husband Daniel mentioned to me that he had an idea for a musical. It would be set during WW2 and would have a gay couple and a le***an couple who had to marry each other in order to pass in society. The men went off to war together and the wives were nurses in Brooklyn. I told him it sounded like a great premise for a musical. He never mentioned it again.
Fast forward to 2021 when Marcelo and I were moving out of the townhouse to the condo. I had to finally go through all of Daniel's papers. In the middle of one of his spiral notebooks I found the words to a single song. My first thought was to find a way to turn it into a song and give it to Maureen.
Thanks to my friend Kristi I was put into contact with Joel Lightman, who is a composer. We began working on the song in February and had the song ready to record at the beginning of May. My dear friend Lisa Ferreira lent her beautiful voice to bring the song to life.
This past Saturday, under a beautiful sky, on a cruise ship in Cleveland surrounded by our dearest friends and family, I played the song for Maureen for the first time. She was overwhelmed at the surprise and the gift. I could not have asked for a better day to deliver this gift from Daniel to his mom.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a musical to write. ❤️

Show #3 Merrily We Roll Along
So I actually performed in this show back in university over 30 years ago. Good memories from that show (unlike the complete blank space that exists in my mind for the production of Evita I did in university 🤣).
This was an excellent revival of a show show that could seem dated but isn't. The lessons of regret, price of fame and success, friendship, love, and loss of one's ideals are very universal. What are we willing to sacrifice to get what we think we want? And what happens when we get it only to realize that there's no one left to share it with who matters? This show was funny and touching and powerful. Stellar performances from all the leads. But the little boy playing Johnthan Groff's son stole every scene he was in. So adorable!
Also if you've never seen this show, it's told backwards, so you watch the destruction of everyone's lives in reverse until you get to the final scene of the show when the 3 leads meet. Seeing a story told this way gives you a different perspective. You know what happened, but you don't know why until later. Which just makes the beginning of the show that much sadder, when you see where they started. No tears this show, just good theatre.

Show #2: The Notebook
Where to even begin?
I'll start by saying I made sure to bring kleenex because I knew this one was gonna be a sad show. If you've seen the movie you know how it ends, so I was prepared for tears.
This show is still in previews, but it will be a hit. It is beautiful and funny and touching and heartbreaking and joyous and captivating and devastating. The 3 sets of leads intertwine throughout the show telling their story. There are several times when the 3 versions of Noah sing together and several times when the 2 younger versions of Allie sing together. But it's not until the end of the show when the oldest version of Allie finally sings, when she all too briefly remembers who she is and who Noah is.
There are quite a few songs that broke my heart tonight. There is one called sadness and joy that talks of the two emotions being intertwined in our experiences of life and love. There is one called If this love that speaks to finding that person who sees you for who you are in all your human messiness. But the last 3 songs of the show, I love you more, I know and the Coda, had everyone in tears. The eldest pair of Noah and Allie hold each other one last time in bed before they die as the rest of the cast sings about where we go when we are gone.
I have struggled for 7 years to answer that question. But they sang the answer so beautifully tonight. We live on in the memories of the ones still here. We remember that love and we hold onto the sadness and the joy that it brings. I wore Daniel's vest so that something of his was with me in the theatre tonight, but he was there, in the songs, in the story, in the performances.
When the show ended, the woman next to me asked if I was OK. I told her today was Daniel's birthday and that he had passed away 7 years ago and that we loved this movie. She gave me a big hug and thanked me for sharing that with her. I also told it to Joy Woods who played the middle version of Allie and Maryann Plunkett who played the oldest version of Allie. It felt good to be able to let them know how much the show and their performances meant to me.
So, if you get the chance, I would add this one to your list.

Show #1 Appropriate with Sarah Paulson and Elle Fanning
This show was a powerhouse of performances.
The plot is an extremely disfunction family coming together at the family plantation in Arkansas, after the death of their father, to get things ready for an estate sale. What ensues is a deep dive into deep seated racism, anti semitism and how different each member of a family remembers their collective past. Everyone delivered incredible performances with Sarah Paulson, as the eldest child, raging against her entire family unordered to defend the memory of who their father was in the face of overwhelming evidence that he was a white supremacist. It was an incredible 2 1/2 hours of acting.
Also the set..... unbelievable! And in the last few minutes of the show it is transformed into the pictures below to show the passage of time. Just amazing!
