Kiori Mirza-Waldman by John Bregar

I first met Kiori as I helped her get ready to play Ariel for a children’s theatre production of the Little Mermaid, and again the next season’s production of Beauty and the Beast. By the end of that year’s summer, I got to primp her for her first lead role in a musical short - where I also met her mom, Nancy. Since then Kiori and Nancy have become dear friends of mine, so I was thrilled to join this shoot for her first grown up headshots with John.

Kiori is a naturally gifted actor and singer, and a kind, witty human. John’s studio environment and demeanour really let that shine - he’s quite the funny guy too.

You may have recently seen Kiori on CBC Gem’s Small Achievable Goals, and has just booked a supporting lead role in a feature film. So proud of you, Sweet Girl!

Fun fact: Ainsi va Manu became the first Canadian series with a black female lead, played by Cindy Charles as Manuela Jean. Manu’s journey has come with a force, peppering her looks across seasons with angst, rebellion and eventual growth.

Ainsi Va Manu, Season 2’s success at 2024.

Fun fact: Andréa’s look in the first slide is perhaps my favourite of the season. Played by Maïka Ferron, Andréa’s character was a preppy overachiever and needed a cohesive look reflecting that. Our director, Josiane Blanc’s major request was glitter and liner that looked like she got up hours before school to do. I decided on rose gold shimmer and matte pink muted cut crease, pinky brown shadow liner, and a crisp winged glitter along the crease: a look as meticulous as she is.
