Exercise will change your body. Running will change your life.

Running is more than just exercise.
It's therapy: the road will listen to all your problems after a hard day and is wonderful for venting it all out.
It's euphoric: when you finish your run you'll get that wonderful feeling known as "runner's high".
It's a tour guide: it can take you to every nook of your city as you discover sights you wouldn't bother to see under normal circumstances.
It's very social: joining a running group is usually free and you're able to meet a lot of like-minded people just by showing up.

Running is a lot of things and it can be whatever you need it to be.

Running taught me that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined.

When you're just starting out you can't go very far, or even very fast. As you put in the time you can go a little further, and a little faster. Much like anything you do in life, when you encounter your limits and work to push them you can achieve more than you ever thought you could.

Don't be afraid to be a beginner.

We all start somewhere and there's only progress to be made from there. The only way to get past the beginning is to begin.

Run For A Good Cause: Yourself.

Running is a great way to take care of yourself and to improve your health and wellbeing. It's always worth investing time in yourself.

Running Is Cheaper Than Therapy.

When out on a run you have yourself and your thoughts. You'll find the time to sort out any issues that have been weighing on your mind, by the end of it you'll feel a lot better. The fact that running causes your body to produce serotonin and dopamine doesn't hurt either ;)

Expect each run to be the hardest yet. Brace for the worst to run your best.

Keep your expectations in check. You don't know if your body will decide to make your run the worst one ever or if the planets will align and you have the greatest run of your life. Setting sub goals for each run can help you with feeling accomplished each time you head out when the bad runs happen. But above all, getting to the end is the most important thing, even if that means walking most of it because of circumstance.

Being a fit spectator sucks. Make sure to get to the line healthy.

As you run more and start putting bigger distances behind you, you also increase your chances of hurting yourself if you don't take the proper precautions. Make sure you are getting enough rest and don't ramp up the distances too quickly! Running should be fun and not a cause for pain!

Run fast enough to get there but slow enough to see.

Whenever you set out on a run, you want to crush it and set a new personal best for the distance. That's a great goal in general, but I find it can take the enjoyment out of the activity. If you slow down just a bit you will find so many things to enjoy around you. Pick a route out of the way with something new to see. Maybe it's a forest trail, a new neighbourhood, or even a landmark. You'll be happy you did and enjoy the run so much more.

Take it one step at a time and always move forward.

Your goals will be waiting for you when you get there. Just keep moving towards what you want.

A 12 Minute mile is just as far as a 6 minute mile.

We all want to be as fast as our idols. Those gifted athletes who can move like the wind. We get bogged down thinking our slower times are "bad" or "unworthy" of even being mentioned. Too easily we forget that everyone starts somewhere and you're starting now. Your best has yet to come.

Besides...

You and that faster person would be tied in the most important category of all: Distance travelled.
