Well, it has been a week, one week since we've been back at it in the salon. And the lead up to opening was fraught with scouring for information and scrambling for appropriate PPE and disinfectant/sanitizing products. But....all in all things have gone pretty smooth...so far. I have to say that Dr Bonnie Henry and the BC government acted with a unified message and that made it easier for everyone to get behind. In the salon we used this format as well. We are all independent stylists and agreed upon a consistent protocol. I have to say that the group at HIP right now has been so instrumental in helping the back to work transition and that helps the guests that are coming in see a consistent and focused sense of order and confidence. Thankful to be back at work with some renewed purpose and thanks to BC an Dr Bonnie Henry for making this as painless as possible.

HIP SALON COVID POLICY AND PROCEDURES

The safety of our guests and team is our top priority, therefore we have implemented the following measures at HIP Salon.
* By appointment only. No walk ins. Door will be locked.
* We have extended our business hours.
* We have restricted scheduling to increase time between clients.
* Cleaning and disinfection of all surfaces and implements between every guest and periodically through the day.
* Laundering all capes and linens and dried at high heat. Every guest has new, clean linen that has been stored appropriately.
* Any non-essential items that could potentially transfer germs have been removed. (Ie. Magazines, appointment reminder cards, etc). Complimentary WiFi is available for use.
* Ensuring the sanitation of payment machines between guests and encourage contactless payment when possible.
* Ensured our team has the appropriate PPE to be used during services including masks, disposable gloves.
* Discontinued the practice of handshaking and non-essential contact for the time being.
* Waiting area is temporarily closed with no walk ins.
* We have social distancing stickers on the floor to know where to comfortably stand along with indicators on the floor.
* We have Plexiglas barriers sneeze guards at the front desk.
* Clear signage communicating our procedures to our guests.
* Scalp massages have been halted for the time being to shorten the shampooing time.
* Pre-screening of our team members.
* If our team is experiencing any symptoms or feels sick, they will be asked to stay home, and will reschedule all their guests.

Guest Arrival Procedure:
* We ask that guests wear a mask. If they do not have one, your stylist will provide a disposable one for you.
* We recommend guest arriving early for their appointment.
* Guests will call to let us know they have arrived or give us a wave from outside.
* We will either let them know they can come in or ask them to wait until their stylist has finished their previous guest and has had time to disinfect and sanitize their station.
* We are communicating with guests to please be patient if we are running behind! Everyone’s hair is needing a bit more TLC than usual and we are taking extra measures to ensure everyone’s safety.
* We will then call guests when we are ready.
* Arrive at the door and give us a wave. We will ask them some pre-screening questions regarding any symptoms or travel before entry.
* We will ask them to wash their hands upon arrival or use hand sanitizer that will be provided.
* Once they have cleared the assessment and washed their hands they will be directed to their stylists station.
* We have plastic garment bags your stylist will place over your jackets closet storage. If it is nice out it is recommended to leave jacket in the car.
* Please arrive alone. We have a limit to how many people in the salon at one time.
* If you are experiencing any symptoms or feel unwell in any way, we ask that you reschedule your appointment.
Through these measures we feel confident that we can keep our team and guests safe as well as enjoy an exceptional experience.

Good news everyone, Dr Bonnie Henry has lifted the personal services lock down order. We still need to procure and finalize salon protocol but we are hoping to be open again June first. Please contact your stylist for more details. Looking forward to getting back to doing what we love and making you all look and feel great. ♥️

Hi everyone, before you get excited about your haircut "mid-May" (after today's announcement) know that salons have ZERO information about exactly when and how we will be permitted to open. We also do not know what PPE we or you need and our distributors are still sourcing it to make sure they have what is needed for us to do our jobs safely. We do not have direct connection or guidance from WorkSafeBC as of yet. It's assumed that like other regions we will be having to provide limited services but we also have no idea what that will look like. This is an encouraging time for all but we still need more specifics. We will continue to update as we know more. Thank you so much for your support and patience through this crazy time, we will see you soon 😘

Many of us have already been adhering to these measures and good for you. What I would like to hear from other salon owners as well as independent stylists is, what if any success have you had in finding financial support from the government services. I know they have said the there will be help for small and independent businesses but I have not seen any clear path for business owners to follow or for independent contractors. So far our land lord has said we still need to pay our rent coming due in 10 days. Let's start sharing any info that can help expedite and help our industry and professionals.

Due to COVID19 we are closed until further notice. Hopefully early in April, but we will be looking for government advisory on a day by day basis. For future appointments please contact you stylist personally or if they have online booking they will monitor things there as well. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you in the hopefully near future.
