ONE YEAR
Life can change so much in just one year. It hasn't even been a full year since I went full-time into nails!
It took so much courage to take the leap and really put everything I had into my business (tho also the burnout from my cafe job gave me a good nudge lol). In the last year, I invested in over $1000 for a business mentorship to learn how to actually run a business, not just fumble around for another year of figuring things out (bc lbr I didn't want to waste any more time than I already have 😅). I invested another $700 in 1:1 mentorship to improve my technical skills and learn how to level up my social media game to stand out from the gazillion nail techs out there. I had to ditch the insecurities of showing up on camera because I knew social media was THE WAY for me to build my dream business and connect with my dream clients. I've invested in so much time, money, and effort into this business that it's so crazy and I try to not actually think about it too much 🤪
Through all the ups and downs of building my business, it's been such a ride. Building a business kicks you out of your comfort zone bc your livelihood is literally on the line lol. It makes you ditch your people pleasing tendencies and stick to your boundaries because you realize this is a BUSINESS and it's a disservice to yourself otherwise. I've grown so much as a person and it's helped me realize what I really value in life - the freedom to be me and express myself creatively, the freedom to spend valued time with friends and family, and the importance of taking care of myself physically, emotionally, and mentally.
I'm just so thankful that through it all it's been so FUN! 🥳 It's been so fun to meet new people in different walks of life, see regular clients every month and catch up on the tea 🍵, and create tiny little wearable artwork that lasts for weeks 🧑🎨. Life is unreal honestly and it's hard to believe sometimes 🥹 Thank you to everyone who's supported me on this journey 😭💕 idk I've been feeling very thankful lately idk why 😂 Thank you if you've read this far I am definitely a

5 things I don’t do as a nail tech 💖
1. I don’t use cheap amazon gels - I use high quality Korean and Japanese gels because my clients deserve the best (and they feel the difference too in their retention!).
2. I don’t reuse disposable files on my clients - I toss them after every appointment or offer them to my clients for them to take home if they'd like.
3. I don’t use cuticle nippers on every client - I use a extra fine ball bit to remove the dead skin and only really use nippers if there's a lot of extra skin flopping about lol
4. I don’t take a deposit for bookings - I take a card on file for last minute cancellations instead because I don't think a $25 deposit actually covers the cost of lost income from no shows/late cancellations.
5. I don’t soak off after every set - I leave a thin layer of base gel to protect the nail instead of prepping the nail plate over and over.
bonus: I don't sterilize my tools - I disinfect them! Manicure tools require a high level disinfection process. Yes there's a difference between sterilizing and disinfecting and manicure tools don't require sterilizing. btw if a place says they're disinfecting their tools by soaking it in isopropyl alcohol ummmm run away lol fast
Is there anything that surprised you? 👀 I feel like there's different ways to doing nails but there are some things that are non negotiable (like disposable files! though I've heard of some surprising things 🙈)
