When I first started exploring opportunities outside of my beauty business, I thought I was saying yes to learning something new and creating more freedom. What I didn't expect was the community that would come with it.

The friendships, collaborations, encouragement, and opportunities have become one of the most valuable parts of the journey. Business can feel lonely sometimes. It's easy to think you have to figure everything out on your own. The truth is, the people you choose to surround yourself with can change everything.

This day was a reminder of that, and I'm so grateful for every conversation, connection, and opportunity that's come from simply being willing to say yes to something different.

Meet

A bridal makeup artist with more than 20 years of experience helping women feel like the very best version of themselves. Known for her natural, glowy "you, but better" approach to beauty, Melanie has a gift for making every client feel comfortable, confident, and effortlessly beautiful.

Adding the Eco lash and brow premium system to her services was a natural fit. For brides and busy women alike, lash lifts and brow laminations offer that polished, elevated look with minimal maintenance. Alongside makeup, she also offers spray tanning, teeth whitening, and lash and brow services from her home based studio in the Mission area of Kelowna.

When she's not in the studio, you'll find her spending time with her high school sweetheart of nearly 23 years, their two children, two cats, and dog. Family and connection are at the heart of everything she does, and that warmth carries through to every client she welcomes into her space.

This spotlight is about celebrating artists like Melanie... experienced, passionate, and dedicated to helping people feel their absolute best.

One of my favourite things about teaching is working with artists who never stop being curious.

This advanced one-to-one nail art training day was filled with different techniques, textures, finishes, and design elements, but what stands out to me most isn't the work itself. It's the decision to keep learning.

It takes a certain kind of artist to look at the work they're already creating and still ask, "What else can I improve? What else can I learn?" Those are the artists who continue to evolve, not because they have to, but because they're passionate about their craft and want to stay inspired by it.

Education isn't always about adding another service or another certificate to the wall. Sometimes it's simply about creating space to challenge yourself, spark new ideas, and fall in love with your artistry all over again.

Days like this are a reminder that growth doesn't happen by accident. It happens when you choose to invest in yourself, stay open to learning, and keep raising the standard of what's possible.

I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on what success actually means to me.

Of course growth matters and building something meaningful matters too, but the older I get, the more I realize the biggest part of all of this has always been the people.

The conversations. The trust. The clients who have stayed for years. The students who believed in me enough to learn from me. The people who support what I do, speak highly of my business, recommend me to others, and continue growing alongside me.

I’ve always wanted the space I create to feel welcoming and genuine. Somewhere people feel seen and comfortable showing up exactly as they are while still feeling inspired to grow.

This recognition of the standards I hold in customer service and community impact mean so much to me because behind them are real relationships and years of pouring myself into what I do. There have been beautiful moments behind that, but also exhausting ones. Moments of confidence and moments where I questioned myself completely while still continuing to move forward anyway.

Winning these awards for three years now is something I honestly don’t take lightly. In an industry where people have endless options, the fact that so many of you continue choosing, trusting, and supporting my business year after year means more to me than I could ever properly put into words.

I’m proud of what I’ve built, but even more grateful for the people who have been part of building it with me.

Community will always mean more to me than competition, and I’ll never stop being grateful for the people who continue to support, trust, and grow alongside me.
