Here is our approach with trichostasis spinulosa. We started with dermaplaning, to clear away the dead skin and peach fuzz and give us a clean, accurate view of what we were actually working with. Then we moved into the Hydrafacial. We combined vortex extraction with manual extraction so we could get as much of that buildup out as possible using both methods together.

But even with all of that, some of it still needed to come out by hand. So we manually extracted the hair bundle itself. And the Hydrafacial played an important role here too by supporting the skin afterward, helping it calm down and heal properly once the extraction was done.

[THE REAL FIX]

But if this is something you deal with regularly, the goal isn’t just extracting it once. It’s breaking down what’s causing it in the first place, so the hairs eventually stop growing back. A few ways to do that:

• Salicylic acid — it’s oil-soluble, so it actually gets down into the pore and dissolves that hardened buildup
• Retinoids at night — they speed up cell turnover so the hair sheds more naturally over time
• Professional extraction — done carefully, so there’s no scarring
• Laser hair removal — this is the closest thing to a permanent fix, since it targets the hair follicle itself
