My pal Nika came in for a short cut + toner the other day! It was so nice to see her again, and to give her curly hair a fun, summery , + a spontaneous shock of pink/violet in her fringe 💖

Nika and I used to share an earthy, boutique salon space that she designed herself, when I first moved to the island back in 2012.

We’ve both had lots of life changes and experiences since, so it was great to catch up!

One thing that remains the same is that we’re both still doing hair, and offering our customers a relaxing, holistic experience ✨

Spencer dropped by for a curly cut last week. A newly arrived to the island opera singer, a great conversationalist, with epic hair? My kind of client 💖

Spencer had questions about his curly locks, that are common for many folks with curly hair, like “is my hair damaged? it feels really dry.”

Medium-thick curly hair often has a coarse, wiry texture, but that doesn’t mean it’s damaged! It just means it’s naturally pourous, and get “thirsty” and dehydrated easily.

Enter: frizz, stage left.

All we needed to do was cut off the old ends, and coach Spencer on how to apply lavish amounts of styling cream and hair oil while his hair is still quite wet. From there, the hair gets deeply hydrated, and can air dry in a nice, chunky curl with minimal frizz✨

Lisa came in recently for a big transformation! She’s gearing up to start her own consultancy business, and wanted a classic, professional yet fun new look.

Lisa is blessed with very thick, strong, abundant hair, but she was ready to go with much less length to have movement, ease and freedom.

We also touched up her colour with .murphy to cover her grey, and add gloss + depth.

Formula: 4NN + 20 vol. on roots, and 4.0 + 4.7 + 20 vol. on the mid-shaft + ends. We wanted a dark, rich colour, but one that caught the light with an “espresso” reflect.
