Growing up, I had a brush in my hand at all times, I would lock myself in the bathroom and do my hair and makeup for hours.
My love affair with hair has never changed. In high school while my friends were talking about boys and parties, I was focused on cosmetology class and the registered apprenticeship program. Instead of shopping on weekends, I worked at the salon by my house folding the towels and sweeping the floors. I would watch closely as the stylists worked their magic and I couldn’t wait to have my very own t
ools. I loved going to school everyday (well.. maybe I only attended my cosmetology classes but it payed off, because I finished with 98%). I then packed a pretty pink bag and set out to find my new home in Victoria. After a few months working at a salon by my home, I was offered the chance to apprentice as a wig maker/hair replacement specialist. I worked there for four years, learning all about the different types of hair, texture, color, attachment methods and so much more. I learned how to create a hairpiece out of hair, fabric and polyurethane. I learned how to color more precisely and how to blend perfectly. Once I had mastered the art of hair replacement I was ready for more challenges. I decided I’d like to learn barbering, so I moved onto a barbershop. I learned to use all the different clippers and began working on fades, tapers and hair “tattooing”. I then launched Status for Her, a mixture of all my experience put into a showcase for all to see. While at status I styled hair for events such as the Victoria Night Life Awards, Siyon’s charity fashion show Emerge and styled countless photo shoots. One of my most proud accomplishments would have to be the charity calender I assisted in creating for Flirting with Fido. I love being able to offer my clients outstanding customer service and beautiful hair; that’s why I am so excited to join the team at Sigma Squared. I look forward to working with such talented stylists and continuing my education in the warm and beautiful salon.
