Oil is an essential component of Ayurvedic bodywork. Unlike Western/Swedish massages, Abhyanga and other Ayurvedic body treatments focus on creating balance in the whole mind-body system and the bodily elements, not just in the muscles and joints. A big part of how we do it is by using medicated (herbalized) oils. These oils have been infused with the medicinal properties of many different herbs (not with essential oils), and are chosen for each treatment based on your specific needs. This is why you feel so deeply centered after an Ayurvedic treatment. Oil is medicine.
