Celebrating 10 years of Patβs Mobile Haircuts βοΈππ€© π
My story began in the 1980s, when I trained and worked as a hairdresser β back in the days of perms and βbig hair.β For about eight years, I worked in salons, enjoying the creativity and personal connections that hairstyling offered.
Drawn to helping people in another way, I went back to school, earned a degree in Social Work, and spent 23 years working in the mental health field. Those years gave me a deep well of patience, empathy, and listening skills that still shape how I connect with people today.
Since 2015, Iβve been doing hair βmy wayβ β bringing quality haircuts right to clientsβ homes, or wherever they need me. Whether itβs seniors, people with mobility challenges, or anyone who simply prefers the comfort of home, my clients know theyβre getting more than a haircut. Theyβre receiving care and conversation from someone they can trust. I love this work for the connections, care, and joy it brings, and Iβm grateful to all my clients, friends, and family who have supported me along the way. βοΈ
Outside of work, I enjoy dancing, paddleboarding, and travelling when I get the chance. I also value spending time with friends and visiting family, keeping my life full of connection and balance.

It's an honour to celebrate this dear centenarian client "Bill" who turned 101 in April! πππHe doesn't have a lot of hair anymore but what he has, he likes to keep neat and tidy. He takes great care in his appearance, ensuring his hair is always well-groomed. πββοΈβοΈπ
Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny warm day so I planned a picnic lunch for myself to have on the beach between my morning and afternoon mobile haircut clients. ππ All went well and I even had a ten minute nap π΄ meditation in my car before going to the seniorβs residences to see my regular client βDr Bethβ she like to call herself. π I buzzed as usual only someone else answered. It was a new resident now as I was told Beth passed away last week π’ Ohβ¦ no one told me π Sigh π I get this from time to time and this came as a surprise. She had missed an appointment a while back due to a hospitalization and at that time I wondered if sheβd be back but after a few weeks I got a call and went and did her hair again in what ended up being our last time. One never knows π’ So back I went to my car, feeling awkward and carrying by bag of equipment. I sat there for a bit in a mild kind of shock remembering some of her quirky traits and her way of always calling me βdarlingβ and βsweetheartβ and being oh so kind and appreciative for my service. She always said I had such a nice gentle touch and did such a great job. π₯° She always tipped me generously even though I knew she was on a fixed income yet she said I was worth it. How very sweet. πSo, at the end of the day, my heart was heavy and I consoled myself talking with a friend and telling myself Dr Beth is in a better place as I know her last couple of years were increasingly difficult. She wonβt have to drag herself though any more of that now and thatβs a good thing. π€² I still feel sad but Iβm just fine accepting feelings of loss and being gentle with myself in this process. Most of my clients are quite elderly and have mobility issues so such is the life and work of this mobile hairdresser. Iβm grateful to do what I can for people in this very rewarding and sometimes challenging self employment business. I work hard to be my best self and do my best job both for me and my clients. ππββοΈ π βοΈ
Have a beautiful day and hug your elderly parents, neighbors, friends and even yourself as life can be over before you know it. πππ

It was a family affair today when I had the pleasure of doing Ella's haircut and colour for her upcoming 100th birthday! π― π π π Her vibrant personality is truly endearing, and she has a remarkable ability to make us laugh. π€£π Ella was overjoyed with her new hairstyle and decided to showcse her look with earrings and lipstick. This experience has reminded me of the immense satisfaction I derive from my work. π€©
A day in the life of this mobile hairdresser βοΈ πββοΈ π
Today my afternoon haircut client, another new one, was so lovely and kind. She was quite a frail elderly woman who had her appointment set up by her daughter in law. By the end of the haircut I noticed her more distant, she said she spoke very quietly, not responding very well to my questions and said she was confused, then dizzy. Oh dear!! I texted her DIL and let her know then called as I was really concerned thinking she was having some kind of episode π Good thing they were only a few mins away and when they arrived, it was clear it was time to call for help. As I was ready to leave, the DIL called 911 and was on the phone to them as I waved goodbye. How disturbing π³ On my drive back I noticed an ambulance coming through the traffic on the way to take care of this dear little lady. π I got a call from the DIL thanking me for staying with mum and that she was taken to hospital π₯ Sighβ¦ π Iβm so grateful we have such a responsive emergency medical service and that she will be taken care of. I see some pretty frail and sometimes unwell clients in different situations while working my mobile haircutting business and this was one of those. Iβm grateful I have the skills to offer my services and find it so rewarding. Iβm glad the timing worked out and hopefully she will be ok π€ One just never knows what the day has in store. All the more reason to be the best me I can be so I can best handle whatever comes my way ππββοΈππ β feeling grateful.
