Skin looking a lil’ dull lately 🫣

Sometimes all it takes is a small change into your skincare routine! Exfoliation is really key when you’re wanting that “glow” from within ✨

There’s about two types of exfoliation, physical + chemical 🧪 The difference between the two is dependent on your skin type and skin concerns. Physical exfoliants are usually something that involved scrubbing off the top layer of dead skin — face scrubs for example. Chemical exfoliant is very much similar, but goes a bit deeper — think AHA or BHA.

There’s nothing wrong with using physical exfoliants like scrubs for as long as the texture is fine/gentle enough that it won’t cause micro tears (no, tiny micro beads in your face wash isn’t gentle enough). Although, in the long run chemical exfoliants might provide you with long term results. Not only does it like a Pac-Man eating away the top layer of dead skin, but also breaking down dirt and debris underneath the skin (blackheads + whiteheads).

Chemical exfoliants either come in a bottled solution (like toners) or a pre-soaked pads. My current favourite that I recommend clients to use is the 𝘕𝘌𝘖𝘎𝘌𝘕 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘗𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘢𝘶𝘻𝘦 🍷

This pre-soaked pad has one side a bit rougher in texture than the other, that you use to scrub off any dead skin on top. You then switched it to the softer side where you let the solution sink into the skin before washing off after 5 mins. 🫧

I personally use this on my body acne as well to tame any flare-ups and slough off the dead skin!

— Apply brow stain

Similar to henna, brow stain stains the skin for about 1-2 weeks and up to 6 weeks on brow hairs 🤍

I love a good side by side B+A 🤩

As a solo skin tech, I cannot stress out enough how important it is to post different skin tones and types. I often have chats with first time and long term clients. Some find getting facials or getting any help with their skin tend to be intimidating when all they see of post/photos is clear skin.

My lovely client came to me for a 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘯𝘦 facial to deal with break-outs on her cheek. They happen to appear recently and her skin history doesn’t point to her being an acneic skin type. Her skin was fine, but had started breaking out after getting a facial elsewhere before coming to see me.

Focused on extractions and calming down current inflammation. Chose masks that contained acids and gentle ingredients for a chemical exfoliation, while calming down irritation. I then used high frequency to kill any remaining bacteria from the extractions, and finishing off with LED light therapy on the blue + green setting (blue to kill p-acne bacteria/green to lighten acne scarring).

She was happy with her results and her breakout was calmed down the next day 😌

Remember that purging is normal and it will resolve itself!

Starting your skincare journey can be so confusing at times. There’s so many skincare terms to know and thrown at you. At times, looking at the skincare section at the store can seem so overwhelming — especially when you’re wanting to invest in products that will work with your skin and not against it.

𝘛𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 🧴

—— Go back to the basics! Keep it simple and don’t go jumping onto a 10-step skincare routine. Do you even know what your skin type really is? Has nothing been working for you? Does your skin become sensitive or stings when a product is put on? These are a couple questions and reasons as to why going back to the basics is sometimes the best choice in order to move forward with your skincare routine.

—— If a client of mine doesn’t have an existing routine or their current routine isn’t giving the results they want, I ask them to re-do their routine and start with the basic 3s (cleanser, moisturizer, SPF). This allows your skin to retract and rebalance itself, it allows your skin to tell you if the cleanser or the moisturizer isn’t working for you. As your skin gets used to the products, you may start to expand your skincare by adding products that’ll help with your skin concerns — this includes toners, serums, eye creams, etc. By doing this trial and error it gives you a better understanding on what works for your skin, and what doesn’t. Sometimes your skin barrier has been so damaged, you confuse your skin type as sensitive rather than sensitized.

—— SPF, SPF, SPF 🗣 You can invest thousands of $$$ into your skin treatments, but SPF is the make or break in seeing progress on your skin. Sun rays can be so damaging internally and externally, it’s like an undo button that reverses everything you’ve done for your skin 😭

My client came to me with the exact skin concerns above — wanting them gone by her birthday last month. She first saw me in the beginning of February, and the after photo was taken around the second week of March 🤩

Like many others, the panini really took a toll on her skin. With the constant mask wearing and not a solid skincare routine in sight (🥲), she broke out mainly on the 3s of her face (forehead, cheek, chin).

Chemical peel bundles are customized to your skin and how well your skin reacts to the peel itself. With her skin, we constantly increased a level up steadily. Starting from level-1 peel, and transitioning to a level-3 during her last appointment. This isn’t the case for everyone client! Every skin will react differently, it doesn’t mean the higher the level the better 🗣
