It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Santanna Tates, niece of Rick, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a loving mother to Gavin (20) and Nevada (18). Santanna is now reunited with her father, Joey Tates, who passed away on October 16, 2017. A beautiful life lost too soon, she will be deeply missed by many.

UPDATE 3, November 29, 2024: Santanna’s obituary is now online here: https://alternacremation.ca/tribute/details/1162/Santanna-Tates/obituary.html -start and her Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 200 Main Street in the Ivory Room. It is a come-and-go event being held from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. ALL ARE WELCOME to attend, please RSVP through the event here: https://www.facebook.com/share/1GZgjqqxNH/?mibextid=9l3rBW

UPDATE 2, November 25, 2024: We have officially raised over 50% of our goal. Please continue to share, spread the word, and if you can, donate. Every dollar counts.

UPDATE, November 20, 2024: It is with great sadness and with her families permission, that we announce our beloved friend, Santanna Tates, passed away peacefully late this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time. Thank you to everyone who has donated to her Go Fund Me, please keep sharing this post. Now, more than ever, we need to need to uplift and support this family.

As many of you may already know, our Vice-Chairperson, Santanna Tates, was tragically diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. She had a surgery to remove her pancreas and part of her spleen, however sadly her cancer has spread throughout her body and she is currently in Palliative Care at the Health Sciences Centre and the doctors have advised she only has a few days to weeks to live.

Santanna is the most hard working and dedicated individual we know. A Red River Métis with historical connections to Rooster Town and Red River Métis Settlements. Santanna has dedicated so much of her young life to the Métis community through her elected volunteer work with Seven Oaks Métis Council and a Michif Language Archivist with the Louis Riel Institute which is an affiliate of the Manitoba Métis Federation, the National Government of the Red River Métis.

We know as a community we can help. Every dollar raised will go to her children, to cover her funeral expenses, pay her debts, help support them while they finish school and get on their own two feet, and if we raise enough, maybe even a down payment on a home for them.

Please help us by donating anything you can afford. Every dollar counts. Thank you so much to everyone that finds it in their hearts to donate to this family who deserves so much more than what they are facing right now, especially because both of their birthdays are less than two weeks away.

Donate today: https://gofund.me/40e17134

Out of respect for the privacy of her family and friends, she will not be accepting visitors.

If you would like to share any words or messages of love, recognition, and appreciation with Santanna and her family, please send them to Brielle Beaudin-Reimer by text to 204-894-0807 or by email to [email protected] and these can either be written (by text or email) or by video (by text).

As they are received, they will be uploaded to a link, so that they can be shared with Santanna and her family in the coming days 🩷
