What really is the difference between natural, soft and full glam?! 😩

When someone tells me “natural makeup” and doesn’t have a picture to show me for inspo, I can nearly always guarantee they don’t actually want natural makeup, they just don’t want to look “overdone”… but this is SOOOO subjective girlies!!

Here’s my breakdown of how I see the differences between natural, soft and full glam…

Natural Glam
- Very light eyeshadow, neutral colours and nothing super bold. Can have a bit of shimmer but nothing too wild. No lashes, just mascara. Skin tone, muted blush, no highlighter, just skin finisher and suuuuuper light coverage. Lips are just glossy and tinted, no lip liner or lipstick.

Soft Glam
- More prominent eyeshadow with shimmer or a matte gradient. Piecey, wispy lashes or a half lash. A smoked out (usually brown) wing. Bolder blush with highlight, defined bronzer. Mid to full coverage foundation. Lip liner and skin tone lipstick or light pink.

Full Glam
- Bold eyeshadow with a sharp, defined wing. Shimmer or matte lid, but a more prominent gradient. Bold lashes. Full coverage foundation, full contour and bold blush/highlight. Defined lip liner with gradient lipstick.

Everyone will see these totally differently. In my experience soft glam reads “natural” on camera and this is what most people actually mean when they say natural.

At the end of the day makeup should never FEEL heavy or ‘cakey’. Cakey feelings can occur when your skin is undernourished. It will suck all the amazing nutrients out of the foundation and leave a pigmented crust behind. This is why we harp on skincare so much.

In any event it’s super important to find a MUA that does your STYLE of makeup, don’t just book solely based on price. (You booked your photographer because you liked their STYLE right?? Makeup is the same…) My style is definitely soft/full glam ✨

But let’s talk about the real foundation — your skin. ✨
Makeup can do a lot (trust me, I’ve seen the magic), but nothing beats a base that’s healthy, hydrated, and loved on a daily basis. Skincare isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency. You don’t need a 10-step routine or a shelf full of products. You just need to listen to your skin.

Drink your water, wash your face, wear your sunscreen, and don’t fall asleep in your makeup (I see you 👀). Your skin is literally your canvas — treat it like the art it is.

Glow from within first, then let the makeup enhance what’s already there. When your skin feels good, your confidence hits different. 💅🏽

So yeah, skincare isn’t extra — it’s essential. Future you will thank you.
