Five years later and I'm heading back to LashCon 🥹

Different season of my career, different perspective and probably a whole new set of questions.

I don't know exactly what I'm looking for this time around... but I think that's kind of the point.

Here's why I stopped obsessing over drawing the perfect lash map and started paying way more attention to the eyes in front of me 👀

Don't get me wrong—I still have a general idea of the lengths and shape I want to create.

But the longer I've been lashing, the more I've realized that the little numbers I draw on an eyepad aren't actually telling me everything I need to know.

I want to know why my longest length belongs where it does.

How much lid space am I working with?
How many natural lash layers does she have?
What direction are those natural lashes growing?
Do I need to use 2 or 3 different curls throughout the set because her natural lashes aren't all growing in the same direction?

And most importantly... what is this actually going to look like when she opens her eyes?

Because THAT'S the part we're styling for.

A lash map can give me a starting point, but the eyes and natural lashes in front of me are going to make the final decisions.

That's also why two clients can come in asking for the exact same set and I might use completely different lengths, curls and placement on each of them. I'm trying to create the same overall effect, but how I get there depends entirely on what's in front of me.

Once I started focusing less on creating the “perfect” map and more on understanding the details in front of me, styling started to make a whole lot more sense.

So yes, save the pretty lash maps for inspo—I still do 😂

But don't just ask “𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞?”

Start asking “𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭?” 👀

One thing I wish more lash artists felt confident about? Sanitation.

Over the years, I've had so many artists ask me about my sanitation process—what products I use, how long things need to sit, whether tools need to be rinsed and what happens after disinfection.

And honestly, I get it.

There's SO much to learn when you're becoming a lash artist that the parts outside of the actual application can sometimes get overlooked. Especially when sanitation was only briefly covered during your training.

But these details matter.

Proper sanitation is part of protecting your clients, protecting yourself and maintaining the standard of care they should be able to expect when they sit in your chair.
