I don’t often speak on ups and downs Hairstylist’s experience BUT the recent trip Ally and some of the team took to Arizona for education has reminded me about one of my core beliefs about being successful in this industry.

Burnout is a very real thing. It can happen for many reasons but for creatives like Hairstylists, this can actually happen for a very specific reason.

First let me clarify this is not a medical conversation, not that type of burnout.

I’m strictly talking about mental/emotional burnout which can happen to the best of us, especially to those who have already achieved career growth 💯

From my own personal experience as well as observing those around me there is a very common denominator when Hairstylists feel this way.

Things become monotonous. Doing the same thing day in and day out starts feeling…..just….meh. You love the clients, love making them happy but you’re just tired. Uninspired. Mentally and emotionally your battery is drained 🪫

Nothing is technically wrong, you’re still doing great work and are successful, but it just doesn’t feel as good as it used to.

So whenever a Stylist mentions things not feeling ‘good’ anymore and they don’t understand why, I ask one simple question:

✨‘When’s the last time you took a class?’ ✨

Learning a new skill or revisiting an existing skill taught by a different person, is where the magic happens.

You come back inspired, excited to implement and share what you’ve learned. You think about which client could benefit from it or how it could solve a problem another client’s been experiencing.

Learning something new reignites your passion and leaves burnout in the dust 💨

The key is learning to recognize this pattern and plan your education accordingly, so you continually grow. There is no monotony when you’re consistently incorporating new things 😘

When I say I can’t wait to film content of the new blonding skills the team learned in Arizona, it’s an understatement. It still fires me up just as much as when I worked behind the chair.
