Breathing- sounds simple, and in a way, it is simple. Breathing is something we are born knowing how to do, and our body typically does it on autopilot. But there are different ways to breathe, which can be adjusted depending on a variety of conditions, and the respiratory process that goes on inside our body to regulate every single breath is seriously complex. Correct breathing can also impact our workout routine and therefore, can be used to our advantage.
Each time we inhale, we take in oxygen, which our body needs to function. The more that we move, the more oxygen we need. For instance, if the exercise gets intense, we hold our breath as a way to get extra strength out of the core. But we need regular oxygen to feed our muscles. By cutting off the oxygen to our bodies, we risk hernias, muscle cramping and dizziness, which can lead to a fall.
While running it is recommended so do called “belly breathing” when we use the entire abdominal area for oxygen, not just the top of our chest. This specific type of breathing, which engages the diaphragm muscle with every breath, involves slowly breathing in through the nose or mouth (preferably the nose), filling up our abdominal area with air, and then slowly exhaling as the stomach collapses.
Some runners prefer a rhythmic pattern: breathing in once through the nose and exhaling twice through the mouth (in-out-out) while running. It may be awkward at first, but with practice, it will come more naturally.
Controlling our breathing during strength training, for example, can help us lift more weight and exert more power with less effort. The most common recommended technique is breathing out on the concentric phase of the lift (for example when doing a bicep curl, the concentric portion is when we lift the weight toward our shoulder, and the eccentric portion is when we lower it back toward the ground). That’s because when we exhale and squeeze the air out, we increase core engagement. Additionally, staying in tune with this breathing can even help ensure you're not lifting weight that's too heavy for us.

Bronchi are the large air tubes leading from the trachea to the lungs. The bronchi function primarily as a passageway for air to travel from the mouth and trachea, down to the alveoli, and back out of the body. In this way, the body's tissues receive oxygen, and carbon dioxide is able to exit the body.
The mucus-lined bronchi split like the branches of a tree into tens of thousands of ever smaller tubes (bronchioles), which connect to tiny sacs called alveoli.
There are as many as 30,000 tiny bronchioles in each lung.
The average adult's lungs contain about 600 million of these spongy, air-filled structures. There are enough alveoli in just one lung to cover an area roughly the size of a tennis court.
Because the bronchi bring in air from outside the body—potentially exposing the lungs to infectious agents—they are lined with mucous membranes. This mucus layer provides an important "barrier" to inhaled pathogens that can help prevent infections from taking hold.

Delivery of aerosolized drugs was revolutionized in the 1950s with the development of nebulizers and pressurized metered-dose inhalers. Nebulizers transform liquid formulations and suspension into medical aerosol. In the past few years, there have been advances in the development of new nebulizers that hold the promise to improve aerosol drug delivery to patients with pulmonary diseases.
When you think about a traditional nebulizer product with many tubes and parts, you’re probably picturing a jet nebulizer. Jet nebulizers have been around for a long time, and are one of the most commonly used nebulizer products. They work by using a compressor to turn liquid medicine into a fine mist that can be easily inhaled.
Mesh nebulizers are the newest innovation of nebulizer product to the market. They use a mesh cap with tiny holes to help dispense medication into consistent particle sizes that can be easily and comfortably inhaled. Almost entirely silent, modern mesh nebulizers are also small and compact and enable you to complete your treatment in as little as 4 minutes. They are also often battery operated, giving patients the freedom to complete their respiratory treatment when they’re on-the-go.
That is why InnoSpire Go nebuliser is one of the best mesh nebulizers out there. Fast, effective and easy to use, the InnoSpire Go nebuliser is designed to shorten treatment time, giving you or your child more time for those special moments with family and friends. Hand-held, it enables treatment just in 4 minutes, has a built-in rechargeable battery and includes Medium LiteTouch Mask (for children from 1 to 5 years).
The rechargeable battery provides up to 30 treatments (120 minutes of use) between each charge. Start therapy with the push of a button. Audible and visual signals indicate when therapy is complete, before turning itself off. The easily detachable mouthpiece makes the InnoSpire Go simple to use, clean and maintain. Fill, Treat and Clean in three easy steps.

Kale is not a new vegetable, but you may have just started hearing more about it. Kale is a popular vegetable and a member of the cabbage family. It is a cruciferous vegetable like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens and Brussels sprouts.
Kale, like other leafy greens, is very high in antioxidants. These include beta-carotene and vitamin C, as well as various flavonoids and polyphenols. Antioxidants, as we remember, are substances that help counteract oxidative damage by free radicals in the body. By the way, oxidative damage is believed to be among the leading drivers of aging and many diseases, including cancer. However, many substances that happen to be antioxidants also have other important functions. This includes the flavonoids quercetin and kaempferol, which are found in relatively large amounts in kale.
You might be surprised but kale is all high in vitamin C. In fact, kale is much higher in vitamin C than most other vegetables, containing about 4.5 times much as spinach and a cup of raw kale contains even more vitamin C than a whole orange. And Vitamin C is an important water-soluble antioxidant that serves many vital functions in the body’s cells. For example, it is necessary for the synthesis of collagen, the most abundant structural protein in the body.
Kale is one of the world’s best sources of vitamin K, with a single raw cup containing almost 7 times the recommended daily amount. Vitamin K is critical for blood clotting, and does this by “activating” certain proteins and giving them the ability to bind calcium. The well-known anticoagulant drug Warfarin actually works by blocking the function of this vitamin.

Gastroscopy (or upper gastrointestinal endoscopy) is included in many checkups to ensure everything is right with our esophagus, stomach, and duodenum at once.
Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure during which an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it, is easily passed through the mouth and throat and into the esophagus, allowing the doctor to view the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. Similarly, endoscopes can be passed into the large intestine (colon) through the re**um to examine this area of the intestine. This procedure is called sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy depending on how far up the colon is examined.
An important examination such as this requires proper preparation. The results obtained from this exam are dependent on the stomach being empty. Food particles inside the stomach can hide important conditions that may be present and may increase the risk of aspiration (choking) during the examination. Therefore, doctor will give specific instructions to prepare for your endoscopy, such as fasting 8 hours prior to the procedure, or stop taking certain medications (for example blood thinners as they may increaser risk of bleeding if certain procedures are performed during the endoscopy).
For most examinations with an endoscope, a sedative is provided. This increases the comfort of the individual undergoing the examination. The sedative, which is administered via an injection into the vein, produces relaxation and light sleep. There are usually few if any recollections of the procedure. Patients wake up within an hour.

An another amazing feature of our body is our microbiome. The word microbiome was coined by Joshua Lederberg in 2001. He signified the ecological community of all living organisms that share our body space. Although technically the human microbiome was defined as the complete genome of all microorganisms in and on the human body, the term is now usually used synonymously to refer to the community of all microorganisms in this habitat.
Each of us has a very individual microbiome. It is very ambulant- while we have over 100 trillion cells that make our body and these cells consist of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms.
Like our other organs, our microbiome performs specific functions such as digestion, maintaining a healthy skin balance, education of our immune system, and synthesis of certain vitamins. Our microbiome is also a natural shield against a variety of illnesses. When in balance, it helps modulate our metabolism, supports our immune system, and contributes to our skin as well as oral health.
Composition and diversity of our microbiome change remarkably as we age. The diversity of our gut microbiome, for example, increases during our first two to three years of life and then stabilizes. This diversity begins to decrease in our older years.
What we eat also can directly impact the composition and abundance of our gut microbiome. Interestingly, two people may eat the same foods and experience different changes to their microbiome – this underscores the highly personal nature of the microbes that inhabit our bodies.

Onions and garlic are usual vegetables on the tables of most kitchens, but many cooks have never touched a leek. Like their better-known cousins, leeks belong to the allium family and are extremely popular in Asia as a health addition to food.
Lets have a look at the three main benefits of leeks:
Firstly, leeks are rich in flavonoids, especially one called kaempferol. Flavonoids are antioxidants that scavenge free radicals from the body cells and prevent or reduce the damage caused by oxidation. As a result they bring anti-inflammatory properties and actively support our immune system.
Secondly, leeks are rich in Vitamin K, a group of fat-soluble vitamins that play a role in blood clotting, bone metabolism, and regulating blood calcium levels. The body needs vitamin K to produce prothrombin, a protein and clotting factor that is important in blood clotting and bone metabolism. It helps, for instance, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Some studies show a relationship between a higher intake of Vitamin K and denser bones, which lead to a reduced risk of hip fractures.
Last but not least, leeks contain lutein and zeaxanthin, two substances that protect the eyes. These substances, known as carotenoids, reduce the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. These two eye conditions can severely impair vision and negatively impact quality of life.
