Power Ladies’ Fact: Françoise Mbango Etone

The year is 2004, at Marousi, Greece. It is the Women’s Triple Jump at the Olympic Games.

“After fouling her first attempt, Etone had five successive jumps over 15m including two at 15.30m. It would be the first Olympic gold medal for Cameroon. Etone would go on to defend her medal four year later with Cameroon's second Gold medal. Her winning 15.39m jump in Beijing stood as the second best jump in history until 2019.”

Now retired, the 28 year old who was a prolific striker inspired female athletes to be themselves and follow their dreams.

She had a golden year in 2015, winning:
• Damallsvenskan top goal scorer: 2015 and
• African Women's Footballer of the Year: 2015

The Paris born, London Based Cameroonian singer is a true Power Lady.

• Winner of the Radio France Internationale Découvertes Prize in 2001 with the song "Muenge Mwa Ndolo".

Her first album Sepia, was released in 2001.

• It was nominated in 2002 for the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards.

• It won the German World Music CD Critics' Awards.

Her second album Sisea was released in 2003.

After touring, she released a live tour DVD, Coco Mbassi Tour.

Her latest release is the album Jóa (2014)

Power Ladies’ Fact: Sarah Etonge 👸.

Referred to as the “Queen of the Mountain”, Sarah Liengu Etonge is a record 7 times winner of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. Finishing at 5:38:06, her most recent victory came in 2005.

“In 2006, the city of Buea revealed a statue in her honor. It was only the second municipal statue constructed in Buea ever, and the first since that for Otto von Bismarck.” - Cameroon Archives.

Many young athletes are inspired by Sarah, who dominated and changed the narrative that Fell(Hill) Running is a Male Sport. Her Son is also a Fell Runner.
