It is important to properly dispose period products. Here are some reasons why.

Most girls are not adequately prepared for their menarche( first menstruation), so when it happens they become embarrassed as other girls and boys mock them. Girls who are yet to menstruate were carefully selected and and prepared for their first menstruation.

Limited knowledge on Menstruation is one of the many barriers to adequate menstrual hygiene around the world. According to UNICEF, "Menstrual Hygiene Management", 2018, 12% of girls are not adequately prepared before their menarche (first menstruation) thus they feel embarrassed and ashamed when it happens.
Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is a serious health issue affecting women and girls of reproductive age and it is very important for the education of the girl child. Many girls skip school due to menstruation because of period poverty (poverty in income, poverty in knowledge and poverty in ideas)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3) aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages. Menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) is very important to achieving this.
Managing menstruation wrongly has many health effects on women and girls. MHH has to be paramount in community development but it is often neglected.
Miss WICUDA Stella Mungu under the supervision of WICUDA general partnered with MY FLOW MY FLOWER by Jato Jayne to empower young girls and women on MHM and how to produce other menstrual supplies such as soap and detergent. Little girls of Age 12 to 15 were adequately prepared and equipped for their menarche (first menstruation).
Women, men, girls and boys were assembled to talk freely, without fear about menstrual hygiene management, challenges we face as girls in managing our periods, period poverty in affording pads every month as well as sharing tips on how we can help each other to better manage menstruation with good hygienic measures.
Most parents do not prepare their daughters for menstruation and boys are often kept aside as far as this topic is concerned whereas we need them to take away the shame that is usually associated to menstruation among girls. Awareness raising on menstrual health and hygiene is very important. Breaking stereotypes of menstruation and taboos starts with involving boys and men in the conversation.
Girls were also thought the importance of reusable cloth sanitary napkin which is not only eco-friendly but skin-friendly and cost-friendly. They learned about other menstruation materials such as menstrual cups and tampons. It was strange to some that pads should be changed after every 4hours. It was a very educative and interactive session with pad donations at the end. Community development starts with empowering the girl child.
