Bleaching :: Application Instruction & Tips
Be sure to read about dyeing and about bleaching before you bleach or dye your hair.
REMINDER: Bleach WILL remove color not just from your hair, from any fabric it touches, so be careful.
Here are some things you should have :
• packet of powder bleach or cream bleach for hair, and developer (at least 20 volume) -
• a pair or two of latex or vinyl gloves - you can find these at beauty supply stores -
• tint brush -
• either a plastic applicator bottle marked in ounces or a plastic mixing bowl -
• j***y towel
• j***y clothes
• someone nice to help you!
• make sure that the instruments you use are non-metallic
Now that you're ready to bleach your hair, here we go!
• Don't shampoo hair before application and do not apply if skin or scalp is broken or irritated!
• You might want to lay down newspaper, or remove any nice rugs from the bathroom before you begin to avoid making mess or causing damage
• Put on your latex or vinyll gloves and mix the powder bleach with the developer (amounts as instructed on your bleach products) in a plastic mixing bowl and mix until creamy using a tint brush. If you're using a plastic applicator bottle, empty contents into the applicator bottle and put the cap back on, cover the hole and keep shaking until smooth.
• You should apply the bleach to dry, combed hair
• Avoid getting bleach on your skin and scalp - it can burn
• Use a tint brush to apply evenly to the hair you want bleached, saturate but not to dripping
• Start about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch from your scalp and apply to your hair in sections, starting at the back working your way up
• Be sure to cover all of your hair (except the roots for now) you don't want to end up with chunks of orange or brown hair! This is why it is a good idea to have someone help you, bleaching is more complicated than dyeing your hair and it is hard to make sure you've covered every spot on your head if you're doing this on your own.
• Let the bleach set for about 20 minutes and check to see if it is at the color you want, if it isn't, keep checking your hair every 10 minutes or so until you achieve the desired degree of lightness.
• Once your hair is near a pale yellow/light blonde stage, apply the bleach to your roots all around and be sure not to miss any spots. Roots bleach must faster than the rest of your hair! If you apply bleach to the roots from the start with the rest of your hair, you will end up with pale blonde roots and orange hair
• Be careful not to keep the bleach in too long, if it is not lightening you can wash it out and try again with a second application later.
Here's a chart for approx timing (time varies on natural hair color):

Dark Blonde 15 to 30 Minutes
Light Brown 25 to 35 Minutes
Medium Brown 30 to 45 Minutes
Dark Brown 45 to 60 Minutes
Don’t overbleach.
• When your hair is evenly bleached to the desired shade, or when the bleach has been in your hair long enough, wash it out carefully and avoid contact with your eyes.
• It's a good idea to follow up with a good deep conditioner or hot oil treatment since your hair will feel very dry. However, if you do this, do not dye your hair the same day. If you plan on dyeing your hair the same day, you should apply the dye first, and then condition your hair later. Applying conditioner to your hair the same day prior to dyeing your hair will affect how well the dye will take, making it harder for the color to stick to your hair.
Another note, if you want white, platinum blonde hair - you will need a toner. This is applied after bleaching in order to remove the remaining goldish tint from your hair.
Remember: use conditioner EVERY DAY and use deep conditioning treatments as needed!

Pre Treatment:
This is a great tip that we had to pass on to all Coppola Keratin Complex users! About a week before you have the Coppola Keratin Complex treatment use the Maijan Pure Organic Argan Oil deep conditioning oil treatment on your hair. This will help prevent breakage and keep your hair healthy pre and post treatment. The Maijan Argan Oil conditioning treatment can be used pre and post Coppola Keratin Complex treatment.
Directions:
STEP 1: Preparation
1. Shake bottle well. Pour approximately 2-3 oz of Natural Keratin Smoothing Treatment solution into a application bowl and let sit for 20 minutes. In the meantime shampoo hair with Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampoo.
2. Pour 2 ounces for shoulder length hair. Pour 3 ounces or more for longer hair. Do not pour solution back into the bottle after application is completed. Discard left-over product
3. Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampoo should be used as follows: Wash hair with one light shampoo with the Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampooif client has 70% or more highlights. Wash hair twice with the Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampoo for single process color and 50% or less highlighted hair. Wash hair three times with the Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampoo for virgin, course, resistant or grey hair.
4. Note: When color is being done on the same day as treatment, always remove color with regular shampoo and then proceed with Keratin Complex Clarifying Shampoo.
STEP 2: Blow-Dry
Using medium to high heat setting, blow dry hair to 100% dry.
STEP 3: Application
1. Section hair into three or four parts.
2. Disposable Gloves should be worn during application.
3. Starting at the nape area, part the hair into 1/2" to 1" sections.
4. Using an application brush, apply the solution away from the face, from roots to ends.
5. Comb hair away from the face with a fine tooth comb ensuring the solution is evenly distributed. Do not Over-Saturate.
6. Place hair in a Disposable Processing Plastic Cap.
7. Let sit for 30 minutes.
STEP 4: Post Application and Blow Dry
1. Remove Disposable Processing Plastic Cap. Do not rinse. Comb out any excess product with a fine tooth comb and wipe onto a towel.
2. Blow Dry hair with a hair dryer using medium/hot setting with a paddle or vent brush to 100% dry.
STEP 5: Final Step - Flat Iron
1. Using a heat resistant comb, clip hair into 3 or 4 sections according to client's preferred style.
2. Using a 450 degree flat iron, start at the nape of the neck, taking 1/8 inch sections (like a highlight strand) and slowly move the iron from root to ends.
3. For damaged, double processed, bleach blondes, grey or fine hair, set iron at 400 - 410 degrees. Pass iron over each section 5 - 7 times.
4. For single processed or 50% or less highlighted hair, set iron at 420 - 430 degrees. Pass iron over each section 7-10 times.
5. For virgin, coarse or resistant hair set flat iron at 440 - 450 degrees. Pass iron over each section 10 - 12 times.
6. This will infuse the keratin into the hair shaft.
7. Always have a heat resistant comb in front of the flat iron.
8. If the ends of the hair are severely damaged or split, cautiously go over the ends fewer times with the flat iron to prevent further damage.
9. Use your flat iron to style hair and add volume.
10. Note: Flat Iron temperature should be adjusted based on individual client's hair type, as flat iron is extremely hot and can be damaging.
STEP 6: After Care and Maintenance
1. After 3 days or 72 hours, hair should be washed withKeratin Care Shampoo and Conditioner. (The Keratin Care Shampoo does not contain sodium chloride.)
2. Do not wash hair for 3 days or 72 hours
3. Use the Keratin Complex Volumizing Dry Shampoo and Lift Powder during the 72 hours wait time to keep your hair refreshed!
4. Avoid getting any moisture in the hair
5. If hair gets wet, blow dry immediately and go over with a flat iron on low heat
6. Wear hair down - do not use pins, clips, ponytails holders or sunglasses to hold back hair
7. Wash hair only withKeratin Complex Smoothing Therapy Shampoo and Conditioners.
8. When swimming in the ocean or chlorinated pool, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
9. Warning: Avoid contact with eyes, If contact occurs, flush eyes with water. Store at room temperature.

Direction:
1. Hair analysis of the customer first, Choose the target color for dyeing.
2. Preparation: mixing proportion is 1:1, 1 part of color cream + 1 part of developer.
Stir thoroughly in a non-metallic bowl until mixture have a smooth consistency.
Then wear the gloves, ear covers and cloth on the shoulders.
3. Hair color application: comb the hair from roots or parts with more white hair to hair ends. Repeat combing until all hair in need applied by the cream.
4. Timekeeping: wait for 20 to 30 minutes or more, depending on the hair thickness and texture. Steam by heating machine if need fast.
5. Rinse: rinse the loose color off hair thoroughly by water. Apply some hair tonic evenly on hair. Rinse it clean after 2 minutes. The hair tonic can replenish biological nutriments to the dyed hair.
