Nak Thum Thai Massage

Thai massage is one of the three branches of Traditional Thai Medicine. It is an ancient system that traces its roots to pre-Buddhist Indian medicine, combining this with Buddhist, Chinese and tribal Thai medicine. Northern style is gentle but can be quite deep pressure, utilising the hands, elbows, knees and even feet to massage fascia and muscle. Combined with rhythmic movements and assisted stretching, it can relax the body and mind, increase strength and flexibility, and effectively treat chronic and acute pain. As an Australian trained Registered Nurse with a long standing interest in alternative therapies, I became interested in the health benefits of massage. I trained in Wat Pan Whaen temple of Chiang Mai, and after some time practicing on the masseuses within the adjacent temple massage shop, was offered paid work. Eventually I was offered a further opportunity to work in Sankul Massage of Lampang, and took this due to increased opportunity to treat discerning Thai customers and learn further techniques.
