Introducing Casa Akiga

Hidden within a sloping jungle site overlooking the ocean, Casa Akíga is designed as a gradual discovery through the landscape. Rather than revealing itself immediately, the house remains partially embedded within the terrain, allowing nature to take precedence.

As one moves through the property, the architecture begins to unfold through shifting light, vegetation, and framed views toward the horizon. Immersed within the jungle while still connected to the distant ocean, the experience is shaped by a constant relationship between shelter, openness, and landscape.

Inspired by traditional treehouses, Suitree seamlessly blends simplicity with sustainable innovation, lightly hovering over the heart of Costa Rica’s vibrant jungles.

Framing views at Casa Bell-Lloc.

Spaces are tucked into the slope and open up gradually, ending in wide views toward the horizon. The project uses this sequence to shift from more private, enclosed areas to open living spaces.

A beautiful light-filtering louvered wall, casting leaf-like specular patterns, shields the Jungle Frame House from the sun in the tropics.

Additional well-oriented openings enable cross-ventilation, maintaining comfort naturally and without air conditioning.

“We wanted a home that felt like it had always been there, hugged by the canopy, dancing with the jungle.” – The Client

Before the new structure took shape, an existing house stood on this land. We carefully dismantled the old structure to clear the way for a more conscious footprint.

By surveying and protecting every pre-existing tree, the architecture was forced to adapt to the jungle. This preserved the soul of the forest while creating a modern sanctuary that feels as though it has always belonged.
