Two very different women who shaped the way I saw what a woman could be.

Feminism has always been deeply personal to me. My great-grandmother marched for women’s rights. My grandmother did too. And yet the women before me lived in a world where believing in equality didn’t necessarily mean you had the freedom to live it.

I’m the first generation of women in my family who has truly had choices.

In 1974, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act made it illegal to discriminate against women in lending. In 1988—the year I turned seven—the Women’s Business Ownership Act helped tear down barriers that kept women from accessing business credit independently.

I’ve had my own bank accounts. I’ve taken out a business loan. I built my own businesses. I make my own money.

And for the past eight years, I’ve been fighting for one more thing: my freedom. I’m still waiting.

That’s why feminism will never be just a word to me.

The freedoms we have are incredibly new. Women fought like hell for them, including the women in my own family.

So be the example. Use your freedom. Protect it. And make damn sure the women coming after us have even more.

Current hair — cut & color I did on myself. Going a little more alt gal with the cut and fringe, and I finally put some lighter pieces in there and blended my grey.

I don’t have much grey, but after three years of growing out my natural color, I’m just not there emotionally.

A lot of my clients are on a once-a-year balayage schedule. The rest of the year, we just tone—changing it up with the season, the mood, or whatever we’re feeling.

This is a bob I love, and I learned how to cut it here in Europe.

Before I lived here, I didn’t know how to cut a bob like this.

In the U.S., you see a lot of bobs that are over-texturized through the ends. They can fall nicely, but they often give that “mom bob” effect.

In Europe, we cut them differently.

The base is blunt. It’s a precision cut—think Vidal Sassoon. Then texture is added on top, but at zero-degree elevation. No short layers. No chewing up the ends.

You can still have movement. You can still have texture. But you keep that blunt edge.

Sexy. French. Italian. Effortless.
