DA ROSA NAMES 25-MAN LEONE STARS SQUAD FOR AFCON QUALIFIERS
Freetown, Sierra Leone — Leone Stars Head Coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa has announced a 25-man squad for Sierra Leone’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.
Sierra Leone are set to face Zimbabwe on September 24 before taking on Equatorial Guinea on September 28, as the Leone Stars continue their Group E campaign in the qualifiers.
The squad features a blend of home-based and foreign-based players, with Da Rosa selecting three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards for the two crucial fixtures.
The upcoming matches will be an important part of Sierra Leone’s campaign as the national team seeks to strengthen its position in Group E and remain competitive in the race for qualification.

Stats SL and UNFPA Engage Census Advisory and Technical Committees on Completed National Cartographic Mapping Exercise
Statistics Sierra Leone and UNFPA have convened Census Advisory and Technical Committee delegates. They gathered, heard presentations, raised questions, examined results. National Cartographic Mapping Exercise now finished underpins December 2026 Population and Housing Census preparations.
The session went far beyond routine briefing. A census stands or falls on whether the public trusts it, and that trust is earned well before enumerators reach the first doorstep. Walking stakeholders through what was mapped, how far the work reached and how quality was assured allowed organisers to place the coming count on ground that can be seen, inspected and questioned. Discussion kept returning to accuracy, credibility, transparency and inclusivity.
Stats SL described the engagement as part of its continued commitment to openness throughout the 2026 Population and Housing Census. Partners used the platform to update key stakeholders on the scope, methodology, national coverage, quality assurance measures, successes, challenges and lessons learned — the geographical foundation for planning and implementing the December 2026 exercise. Stakeholders also sought clarification, shared observations and contributed ideas meant to strengthen the process.
In attendance were Statistician-General Andrew Bob Johnny; UNFPA Country Representative Kunle Adeniyi; Head of Mission of the Embassy of Iceland in Sierra Leone Asdis Bjarnadottir; and Senior Governance Advisor at the Embassy of Ireland in Sierra Leone Josephus J. Ellie, alongside representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), universities, civil society organisations, political parties and other key stakeholders.
The All People's Congress (APC) sent Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Peter Banguru and Leonard Balogun Koroma. Publicity Relations Officer Moses Mambu and Ahmed Saybom Kanu turned out for the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP).
Their joint presence underscored the broad-based and consultative approach underpinning the count, and the weight placed on stakeholder engagement in strengthening public confidence in the exercise.
In his welcome address, Statistician-General Andrew Bob Johnny expressed appreciation to the Government of Sierra Leone, UNFPA, development partners, the Stats SL team and other stakeholders for their continued contributions.
"Before we can count people, we must know where they live," he stated.
The exercise, he explained, has established the geographical keystone for the census by supporting Enumeration Area delineation, field deployment and supervision, while helping ensure that no household or community is left behind.
For his part, UNFPA Country Representative Kunle Adeniyi highlighted the importance of data and cartographic mapping to effective governance and national development, describing the exercise as a critical foundation for an accurate, inclusive and credible 2026 headcount. He commended the financial and technical support provided by Ireland, Iceland, the UK Government through the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), and UNFPA consultants, while reaffirming UNFPA's continued partnership with Stats SL.
GIS and Cartographic Mapping Consultant Dr Foluke Adebayo then delivered a detailed presentation and simulation showcasing the national coverage and outcomes of the mapping work.
Committee members applauded the comprehensive presentation, commending Dr Adebayo and the Stats SL team for professionalism, openness and commitment to a transparent and inclusive count.
As Sierra Leone advances towards the next phase, Stats SL reiterated its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders so the process remains professional, transparent, inclusive and guided by international statistical standards. For a nation preparing to enumerate every household, the value of this groundwork lies less in what it produces than in what it prevents gaps, disputes and doubt.

Nigeria has jailed nine people for crude oil theft, handing them 10-year prison terms each with no option of paying a fine. A Federal High Court in Uyo in Nigeria's southern Akwa Ibom State sentenced the nine accused to five years for conspiracy and 10 years for tampering with an oil pipeline belonging to the ASABO-D oil wellhead in Ibeno. The sentences, however, will run concurrently, meaning they will each serve 10 years. The defendants were among a group of 19 suspects arrested in total during a joint operation between the Nigerian Navy and Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS). The remaining 10 suspects are yet to face their court proceedings.

CHINA AND RUSSIA MOVE TO ARM IRAN WITH JETS AND SHIP-KILLER MISSILES🚨🚨🚨
China is close to finalising a deal to supply Iran with CM-302 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles. The missiles have a range of 290 kilometres and fly low to evade ship defences.
Russia is preparing to deliver 2,500 Verba man-portable air defence missiles and 500 launchers in a deal worth nearly 500 million euros. Deliveries are scheduled from 2027 to 2029.
Iran is also negotiating for Chinese J-10C fighter jets to replace its ageing fleet of American-made F-14s and F-4s.
Experts say the CM-302 would significantly boost Iran's ability to threaten US naval forces in the Gulf. The J-10C, equipped with PL-15 long-range missiles, would be a major upgrade.
Analysts describe the relationship as transactional, not sacrificial. Beijing and Moscow are selling weapons, not fighting wars for Tehran.
The real winner is China. It is becoming Iran's primary arms supplier while Russia's export capacity is stretched by its own war.

President Julius Maada Bio Refers Petition on the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill to Supreme Court for Judicial Opinion
Freetown, Monday, 14 September 2026 – The general public is hereby informed that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Brigadier (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, on 10 September 2026, received from the Clerk of Parliament a Bill titled “The Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Act, 2026,” for Presidential Assent.
Earlier, on 4 September 2026, the President received a petition from the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) raising constitutional questions regarding the passage of the Bill by Parliament.
Additionally, the President has followed with keen interest the various debates surrounding the Bill and the differing views expressed, both in support of and against its passage.
It is the President’s considered view that the passage of such an important Bill, touching on the constitutional and democratic foundations of the Republic, requires broad national consensus and must be underpinned by constitutional clarity, in order to inspire citizens’ trust and confidence in Sierra Leone’s constitutional review process.
Accordingly, pursuant to Section 122(1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, the President has directed that the petition concerning the Bill be referred to the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone for a judicial opinion. In exercising this constitutional authority, the President has mandated the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to facilitate the referral.
By this release, the Clerk of Parliament is hereby notified that, where the judicial opinion is not received from the Supreme Court within fourteen days from the presentation of the Bill, the final decision of the President on the Bill will be communicated to Parliament at the earliest opportunity upon receipt of the judicial opinion from the Supreme Court.
This unprecedented step reflects the President’s commitment to ensuring that matters of profound national importance are handled with due diligence, transparency and fidelity to our constitution.

Former President Koroma Fellowships With His Family At The Wesleyan Church
A Nation In Healing
Former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, on Sunday returned to a place deeply woven into his personal and spiritual journey, joining members of the Wesleyan Church Sierra Leone for worship at the Ferry Junction congregation, east of Freetown.
The service, held at the Wesleyan Church at Kissy Dockyard, opposite the Ahmadiyya Mosque at Ferry Junction, was President Koroma’s first public function outside the official reception and visits following his return to Sierra Leone after more than two and a half years away from the country.
He attended with his wife, former First Lady Madam Sia Nyuma Koroma, their daughter Alice and granddaughter Lizy.
His choice of the Wesleyan Church for his first public engagement following his return gave the occasion an unmistakably personal character. It was a moment of worship, family fellowship and reflection within a church community that has accompanied an important part of his life.
The service was held under the theme “My Life, My Responsibility” and brought together worshippers for a programme of thanksgiving, reflection and fellowship.
The programme began with the chorus “As We Gather,” followed followed by the call to worship led by Assistant Pastor James Tholley. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art” before the Scripture reading delivered by Church Secretary Mr Michael A. F. Sesay.
The congregation subsequently welcomed President Koroma and his family, with Reverend Dr Usman J. Fornah delivering the acknowledgement and welcome remarks. This was followed by a welcome song and a praise session led by the Praise Team.
During the service, President Koroma reflected on his longstanding relationship with the Wesleyan Church, recalling the congregation’s development over the years from its humble beginnings in a classroom, through worship in a modest structure, to the established church it is today.
He expressed gratitude for the journey through which God had guided him and described his return home as carrying a particular sense of spiritual fulfilment. He said he was happy to be back and reaffirmed his desire to continue serving his country and the church.
A small moment during the service also reflected the former President’s longstanding reputation for humility. He was initially ushered by a pastor towards his customary seat at the back of the church, but the senior pastor invited him to occupy the front row.
“My Life, My Responsibility”
The central message of the service was developed through the sermon on “My Life, My Responsibility,” delivered by Reverend Dr Usman J. Fornah.
The preacher anchored his message in four principal areas of responsibility: responsibility for one’s life, one’s actions, one’s words and one’s response to others.
He emphasised that responsibility begins with taking ownership of one’s life and the choices one makes. It extends to one’s conduct, the words one speaks and, importantly, the manner in which one responds to other people.
According to Reverend Dr Fornah, these dimensions of responsibility are interconnected, since the way people live, act, speak and respond to others can have consequences not only for themselves, but also for those around them.
He further identified three tendencies that can weaken a person’s sense and exercise of responsibility: shifting blame, procrastination and comparison.
Illustrating the danger of shifting blame, Reverend Dr Fornah referred to the account of the Fall in the Book of Genesis. He noted that when Adam was confronted over his disobedience, he shifted responsibility to Eve, while Eve, in turn, blamed the serpent.
The preacher used the biblical account to demonstrate how a refusal to accept personal responsibility can lead people to search for someone else to blame rather than confront their own actions and choices.
On procrastination, he warned against continually postponing responsibilities and decisions that require action, stressing that delayed action can itself become a failure to discharge one’s responsibility.
On comparison, he cautioned against measuring one’s life against the lives, achievements or circumstances of others. Such comparisons, he suggested, can distract individuals from recognising and fulfilling their own purpose and obligations.
The sermon thus moved responsibility beyond an abstract principle, presenting it as something reflected in the everyday choices people make, in how they live, what they do, what they say and how they respond to others.
A youth presentation and hymn of meditation by the choir also formed part of the programme before the congregation sang “Deeper, Deeper” and the service concluded with prayer and benediction.
The service ended on a note of thanksgiving and renewed commitment, with President Koroma expressing his happiness at being home and his resolve to continue serving God, his church and his nation.
For a country that has experienced its own difficult chapters, the day’s emphasis on responsibility, personal accountability, healing and service offered a message extending beyond the congregation at Ferry Junction.
It was a homecoming marked not by ceremony, but by worship, and by a reminder that every new chapter of life comes with its own responsibilities.

Vice President Juldeh Jalloh Is Special Guest at The Launch of Guinea’s New Foreign Policy Documen
CONAKRY, Guinea - 9th September 2026: The Republic of Guinea, on Wednesday, officially launched its new Foreign Policy Document at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, with Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, attending as a Special Guest of the Guinean Government during his two-day working visit to the country.
The high-level event, under the aegis of the Head of Government and Prime Minister, His Excellency Amadou Oury Bah, brought together senior government officials and diplomatic representatives around a policy framework intended to define Guinea’s international engagement, regional partnerships and economic diplomacy.
Launching the document, the Prime Minister said Guinea’s foreign policy would be guided by sovereignty, strategic neutrality, economic transformation, peace and African integration. He stressed that the country’s embassies must become platforms for “influence, negotiation, economic mobilization, and national influence,” while partnerships would be assessed according to their contribution to productive investment, employment, infrastructure, skills transfer and technology.
He also reaffirmed Guinea’s commitment to regional stability, saying, “Africa is our family, the world is our horizon,” and outlined priorities including good neighbourliness, shared security, economic corridors, energy cooperation and coordinated border management.
Earlier, the Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on VP Juldeh Jalloh at the Radisson Blu Hotel, further underscoring the close diplomatic relations and growing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
