We spent the last year testing improvements to our After-Cooking Hand Scrub, and we’re finally ready to start production. Upgrades include:

- Cleaner ingredients. Now with plant-based cleansers, our recipe follows the Clean Beauty standard for high-end cosmetics.
- Improved skin nourishment. To care for hardworking hands, we added provitamin B, algae extract, and 2x the glycerin as the original recipe.
- Improved feel. We managed to increase the exfoliation while still keeping hands from feeling dry or stripped. One of our testers said “this is the cleanest my hands have ever felt!”

We still produce, fill, and label every bottle ourselves from a small car garage. With this setup we can only produce a couple thousand bottles a month, and your orders severely outpaced us. We’re sincerely grateful for the love.

What’s on the menu tonight?

It’s tough to create an exfoliating hand wash that’s both gentle and clear. The larger the exfoliant, the more abrasive the exfoliant. The smaller the exfoliant, the more dispersed it is in the final solution (which decreases clarity).

It’s a balance we’re still working on, but our latest bottles are closer than ever to nailing it. We do it by mixing exfoliants that vary by size and rigidity. Two sizes of jojoba seed wax and one size of pumice.

Gentle exfoliation from biodegradable jojoba seed wax. Jojoba is a shrub in the southwestern US with seeds that are about 50% oil. We get ours from a single farm in Arizona.

Cooking with live scallops, the skirt and roe are particularly fragrant.

That fishy smell happens when trimethylamine N-oxide, a natural compound in their flesh, breaks down into trimethylamine—the sharp, ocean-gone-bad odor your nose instantly catches.

Our After-Cooking Hand Scrub uses bread yeast enzymes to break down these compounds even further into molecules that are harder for our noses to detect.
