I got permission from Laila to share this story because honestly… I’m so inspired by her and feel like many girls and women (including myself) can learn from the way she handled this.

This is how my daughter handled a cyberbullying incident.

Someone from her friends circle posted a story about her on Instagram that shouldn’t have been posted.

Instead of panicking, she messaged the boy:

“Take it down … or هزعلك.”

He replied:
“What are you going to do?”

She said:
“Don’t remove it and you’ll find out what I’ll do.”

A few seconds later… it was gone.

She then reached out to her closest friends and told them:

“You’re the people I care about the most so I wanted you to know that what he posted is not true.”

They replied:
“We believe you, Laila.”

I asked her:
“Laila, what were you going to do if he didn’t remove it?”

She said:
“I was going to tell you to handle it… but I knew he’d remove it because bullies think they are brave behind their phones but I wanted to remind him that we don’t live on the internet.”

And that’s when I realized…

Our kids don’t turn out exactly like us.

They turn out as the stronger, more powerful version of us.

I learned to use my voice in my 30s.
She’s 11.

I spent years reminding her to use hers before I found mine and when the moment came, she did.

She’s the version of me that I always wished I could be.
I thought I was raising her…
But I was being raised by raising her.

And if you’ve been here for a while you know I’ve always said this:
God sent me Laila to remind me of the woman I could be every single day.
