Cupping & massage: what are they used for?
Cupping uses suction cups to gently lift and decompress the skin and soft tissues, while massage uses pressure and movement.
They’re commonly used to help manage muscle tension, soreness and discomfort, encourage relaxation and support recovery. Cupping temporarily increases local blood flow and may also help with short-term pain relief and feelings of improved mobility, making it a useful addition alongside massage, exercise or physiotherapy.
Research suggests cupping may help with pain and perceived recovery, particularly in the short term, while evidence for lasting structural tissue changes is less clear.
