✨ 12 Days of Christmas // Day 10 ✨

Today we hear from Gary and his wonderful team at The Gap Counselling about some simple ways to deal with family distance for parents over christmas.

"For many men working in yachting, Christmas comes with a quiet weight.

Being away from your children on Christmas Day can bring guilt, frustration, anger, and the feeling that you are letting them down. Even when you know why you are working. Even when you are doing it for them.

This conversation is a reminder that missing one day does not define the relationship you have with your children. What they remember most is connection, how they feel with you, and the time you make for them over the long term. That can be created before Christmas, after Christmas, or on a completely different day altogether.

Feeling like a “bad dad” does not mean you are one. It means you care.

If this resonates, you are not alone. These feelings are common, especially in industries where time away is part of the job. Talking about them, rather than carrying them silently, can make a real difference.

Support is available, even when you are far from home."

✨ 12 Days of Christmas // Day 9 ✨

Your Christmas tips can be more than a reward for a hard season. They can be a gift to your future self.

Yachting gives you a rare opportunity to earn well. What you do next is what makes the difference. Paying yourself first, giving your money direction, and using high-income moments to create long-term freedom can change how this career supports your life beyond the boat.

The real reward is not what you buy. It is the options you give yourself later.

Thanks to Morgan Tebbutt for sharing a perspective every crew member deserves to hear.

✨ 12 Days of Christmas // Day 8 ✨
Todays tip is brought to us by - one of our wonderful Mental health providers, she is bringing you some great tips on staying grounded with routine habits.

"Working in hospitality isn’t easy. We’re trained to create exceptional experiences for others, often by putting our own needs on pause. In everyday life, that energy is usually restored through friends, movement, rest, or simple moments that refill us.
On yachts, especially during charter season, that balance becomes harder to maintain. We’re immersed in routines that change daily based on guest expectations. While this keeps the experience exciting for them, it can slowly build pressure for the crew - showing up as anxiety, emotional fluctuations, and mental fatigue.
Those of us who work in yachting know how special this industry is. It’s intense, rewarding, and unlike any other. What’s less discussed is the other side: disrupted sleep, mood swings, heightened stress, and moments where emotions spill over.
The goal isn’t perfection - it’s sustainability. To keep enjoying this career and to support a safer, healthier onboard environment, I want to share a few small, intentional habits. Think of them as a daily checklist to help you stay grounded, regulated, and present throughout the season."

✨ 12 days of Christmas // Day 6

Today we get the low down with Tessa from .balance on adding healthy components to your snack to keep the energy going for longer:

In a word of yachting where sugar is abundant:
Stop removing.
Start adding. 🍫

Protein + fibre = stabilised blood sugar , you stay fuller longer & you reduce the likelihood of a binges because you’re not only satisfying your craving but your nutritional needs too.

This is the shift that changed my relationship with food. Instead of restriction and deprivation, I learned to add what my body actually needs. Cravings aren't the enemy, they're just telling you something's missing.

During charter, emotional eating thrives when you're deprived. But when you're adding nourishment? Everything changes.

✨ 12 days of Christmas // Day 5 ✨

Todays tips are from Belinda to help you reset through the busy Christmas period.

After a busy charter, the body often holds onto stress long after the guests leave. Quick reset rituals help you shift out of high-alert “performance mode” and back into balance - even when you don’t have much downtime.

Crew-specific resets that work fast:
• 60–90 seconds of long exhales to signal safety to the nervous system
• A magnesium or electrolyte top-up to replenish minerals depleted during high-demand days
• A warm shower or 5-minute decompress stretch to unwind tension
• Eating a balanced meal before crashing into bed to stabilise cortisol
• A short grounding moment (feet on deck, slow breath, no stimulation)

These tiny rituals support faster recovery so you can enter the next rotation feeling steadier, clearer, and more resilient.

✨ 12 Days of Christmas // Day 4 ✨

Today we are learning from about using micro-moments to shift your mindset.

When you can’t control your environment, you can control your breath.
Ten slow, steady breaths - whenever you need them - can ground the mind, ease stress, and bring clarity, no matter what’s happening around you.
Add it to moments you already do every day: while brushing your teeth, taking a bathroom break, stepping outside for fresh air, or pausing before you eat. Tiny habits, powerful impact. 🌬️✨

✨ 12 Days of Christmas // Day 2 ✨
Charter season takes a lot out of you. Before diving into the next trip, the next list, the next expectation, it’s worth hitting pause and letting your system catch up.

For Day 2, Ena from .sessions shares simple, human ways to reset after a busy run… the kind of things that help you feel like you again.

Whether you recharge through people or quiet, movement or rest, there’s no right way to reset. There’s only what works for your body and your capacity.

We hope these reminders land where they’re needed.
More coming each day until Christmas.
