Alan is returning to work tomorrow 🥳
The macular hole in his right eye has closed and his vision is gradually becoming sharper and more focused!

Unfortunately his left eye, which we knew is also suffering from Vitreo Macular Traction too; unfortunately has deteriorated much quicker than we would have liked/hoped. He will be seeing the surgeon in 3 weeks time to discuss how to advance.
Alan’s health is our top priority of course!
We appreciate and are extremely grateful for everyone’s understanding and concern!

ALAN UPDATE!

We went to see Alan’s surgeon today for the first time since the operation, he did have have a follow up the day after the operation, but not with Dr Placeres.

So far, so good, Alan was very well behaved, and although he was bored out of his skull and kept trying to use delaying tactics (a bit like a toddler when they don’t want to go bed) after his 10 minute per hour breaks, he did manage to stay face down for the required 3 days.

Today he had a vision acuity rest and he did extremely well and they were very happy and a little in disbelief with the progress he has made in just 4 and a half days!

Below are the scans of his eye before and today! As you can see Dr Placeres has done a fantastic job!
Alan still has to be extremely careful and has a long recovery ahead but, it seems it’s going to be worth it!

Thank you for your messages, just want to give an update on the patient!

The surgery took place at 15:30, and lasted the minimum time of 1 hour 15 which was a very good sign to begin with!
After surgery I was invited to go and sit with Alan, while they gave him his IV painkillers!
Dr Placeres came to speak to us to inform us that everything went to plan, there were no complications and in fact Alan was a perfect patient, he was able to create a flap in the eye, which means that recovery should be optimal as this gives a secondary layer of support to the healing membrane of the eye!
Alan now must “posture” for 3 days, keeping his head completely down!
As you can see nurse Patsy is at his temporary makeshift bedside!
So far so good!
He is going for his first checkup tomorrow, so we will know more tomorrow!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

As many of you have asked, I will try my best to keep you all updated about Alan and his eye surgery to fix his Lamellar Macular Hole.

Originally the surgery was scheduled for 9th January, but it has now been brought forward to this Wednesday 7th January.

The surgery is a day surgery, provided that everything goes to plan. 🤞🏻

I will try to give updates on the 7th.

As most of you know, Alan will not be able to work for 4 weeks following surgery. As recovery is a gruelling process, and he will have to stay very still. (An almost impossible task for Alan)
I will still be working during that time.

We will be closed from 7th until 13th Jan, (Maiia will still be working though) so that I can help him initially with recovery and then his parents will be taking over.
