🧬Key facts about Marburg virus disease (MVD)

Formerly known as Marburg haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans.

The average MVD case fatality rate is around 50%. Case fatality rates have varied from 24% to 88% in past outbreaks. Early supportive care with rehydration, and symptomatic treatment improves survival.

There are currently no approved vaccines or antiviral treatments for MVD, but a range of vaccines and drug therapies are under development.

Rousettus aegyptiacus, a fruit bat of the Pteropodidae family, is considered the natural host of Marburg virus.

The Marburg virus is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads among humans through human-to-human transmission

ከዚህ ቀደም ለሕጻናት ይሰጥ የነበሩትን ሶስት ጸረ ኤች አይ ቪ መድሃኒቶች ተጣምረው በአንድ እንክብል መልክ የያዘ pALD የተሰኘ መድሃኒት ለማስጀመር ዝግጅት ተጠናቋል።

ከዚህ ቀደም አዲሱን pALD የተሰኘ የህጻናት ጸረ-ኤች.አይ.ቪ መድሃኒቶችን ወደ ሃገር ውስጥ ማስገባት መቻሉን ያስታወሱት በጤና ሚኒስቴር የኤች.አይ.ቪ ኤድስ መከላከል እና መቆጣጠር መሪ ስራ አስፈጻሚ አቶ ፍቃዱ ያደታ አሁን ላይ በጤና ተቋማት መድሃኒቱን በአጭር ግዜ ዉስጥ ለማስጀመር አስፈላጊዉ ዝግጅት መጠናቀቁን ገልጸዋል።

አቶ ፍቃዱ አክለውም pALD የተሰኘው የፀረ ኤች አይ.ቪ መድሃኒት ከዚህ ቀደም ለሕጻናት ይሰጥ የነበሩትን ሶስት ጸረ ኤች አይ ቪ መድሃኒቶች ተጣምረው በአንድ እንክብል መልክ የያዘ እና በቀን አንድ ጊዜ ብቻ የሚወሰድ እንዲሁም ህጻናት ከመድሃኒት ጋር ያላቸውን ቁርኝት ታሳቢ በማድረግ የተመረተ መሆኑን ጠቁመው መድሃኒቱ በደም ውስጥ የቫይረስ ልኬት ወደ ሚፈለገው መጠን ለማዉረድ ከፍተኛ አቅም እንደሚኖረውም ገልጸዋል።

ይህንን የፀረ-ኤች አይ.ቪ መድሃኒት በማስተዋወቅ በደማቸው ውስጥ የኤች.አይ.ቪ ለሚገኝ ህጻናት በአግባቡ ደርሶ በስፋት ጥቅም ላይ እንዲውል በጉዳዩ ላይ የሚሰሩ ሁሉ ሃላፊነታቸውን እንዲወጡ አቶ ፍቃዱ መልዕክታቸውን አስተላልፈዋል።

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health challenge globally resulting in an estimated 1.30 million deaths with about 11% of those deaths occurring among children. Africa accounts for 23% of the estimated global TB burden and over 33% of global TB deaths. It is thus paramount for African Union (AU) Member States to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day (WTBD) to raise awareness on TB prevention and control, but also to reaffirm our commitment as a continent to the fight against TB - a disease that continues to impact millions of lives for decades across our continent. In 2024, WTBD will be commemorated under the theme, “Yes! We can end TB.”
