ለ. የ2026 ፍተሻ፦ በ30 ምርቶች (ሲንቴቲክ፣ ከዕፅዋት የተሰሩ እና የተፈጥሮ የሰው ፀጉር) ላይ በተደረገው ሰፊ ፍተሻ በ29ኙ ውስጥ 'ሊድ' (lead) ተገኝቷል።
መ. የተፈጥሮ የሰው ፀጉር አስገራሚ ውጤት፦ ከተፈጥሮ የሰው ፀጉር የተሰሩ ምርቶች ከሲንቴቲክ ምርቶች በበለጠ ከፍተኛ የእርሳስ (lead) ክምችት አሳይተዋል:: ይህም የሆነው የተፈጥሮ ፀጉሩ ለገበያ ከመቅረቡ በፊት በኢንዱስትሪ ደረጃ ከፍተኛ ኬሚካላዊ ቅባቶች፣ የኬሚካል ማቅለሚያዎች (bleach) እና ማለስለሻዎች ስለሚደረጉበት ነው።

በአተነፋፈስ (Inhalation)፦ ፀጉሩ በሙቅ ውሃ ሲነከር፣ በፀጉር ማድረቂያ ፎን (blow dryer) ወይም በካውያ ሲተኮስ ኬሚካሎቹ ወደ ጋዝነት ተቀይረው ወደ ሳንባ ይገባሉ (Auguste & Miller, 2020)።
ክፍል 4፦ የህዝብ ጤና እና የማህበረሰብ ፍትሃዊነት ስጋት
ይህ ችግር የጤና ጉዳይ ብቻ ሳይሆን የማህበረሰብ ፍትሃዊነት (Environmental Justice) ቀውስ ነው፦
ያልተመጣጠነ ተጽዕኖ፦ ጥቁር ሴቶች ከባህላዊ እና ከማህበረሰባዊ ሁኔታዎች የተነሳ ለእነዚህ ምርቶች ከፍተኛ ወጪ ያወጣሉ፣ በብዛትም ይጠቀማሉ።

ሙቀትን መቀነስ፦ በሲንቴቲክ ፀጉሮች ላይ ከፍተኛ ሙቀት ያላቸውን የፀጉር መስሪያዎች አለመጠቀም እና የሹሩባ ጫፎችን በእሳት አለመለብለብ (Auguste & Miller, 2020)።

Continuous friction, body heat, and sweat allow these chemicals to slowly leach out of the fibers and absorb through the skin into the bloodstream.
Inhalation (Breathing): When consumers or stylists apply heat to extensions—via blow dryers, flat irons, curling wands, or boiling water (used to set synthetic braids)—the chemicals turn into gases and enter the lungs (Auguste & Miller, 2020; Kavi et al., 2024).

The health risks associated with hair extensions represent a major environmental justice and health equity crisis.
Disproportionate Impact: Black women spend disproportionately more on hair care products and extensions due to societal standards, cultural practices, and workplace grooming policies.
Compounding Health Disparities: Black women already experience significantly higher rates of hormone-mediated health conditions, including uterine fibroids, early-onset puberty, and aggressive forms of breast cancer. For Consumers & Stylists

Maximize Ventilation: Ensure salons and home styling areas are highly ventilated, using specialized air purifiers with HEPA and activated carbon filters to capture airborne VOCs (Kavi et al., 2024).
Wear Gloves: Stylists should wear protective gloves during installation to prevent chronic dermal exposure to chemicals on the fibers.
For Policymakers & Advocates
Advocate for Transparency: Support legislation requiring full ingredient and chemical treatment disclosure for hair pieces.
Corporate Accountability: Demand that major beauty brands independently test their supply chains for heavy metals (like lead) and restricted carcinogens (like benzene).
