I've been taking care of my own hair for over 7 months since moving here.
No salon visit, just me, my products, routines and I started seeing results, I mean real ones.
Then my husband noticed a place nearby and suggested I try it for braids with extensions.
I thought, okay, let's give it a try so I can rest my hands.
I came prepared, I washed my hair, moisturised it and took care of it the way I always do before any style.
We got there she touched my hair and immediately said it was wet.
I told her yes, i washed it before coming.
What happened next I still can't believe.
She brought out a hand dryer.
No heat protectant. No sectioning.
She just inserted the comb straight into my hair all of it at once and started pulling through.
It felt like a movie. An uncomfortable, painful movie.
I had to ask her to stop.
Her response? That's how we do it here.

Right there I knew she had never been trained to handle natural hair.
She didn't understand shrinkage, she didn't understand that freshly washed natural hair needs to be sectioned, detangled gently from ends to root never forced through with a comb.
Then she picked up a brush.
It was worse.
I left that chair in more pain than I arrived.
My scalp was sore tender in a way that stayed with me after we left.
I came in with clean, moisturised, healthy hair but left with a painful scalp and the kind of frustration that's hard to put into words.
And the worst part? She never once thought she did anything wrong.
This is why knowing the difference matters.
This is not to say she was not a bad person.
She was just a stylist who was never trained for natural hair and your hair pays the price for that gap every single time.

A natural hair specialist knows how to understand your hair.
Your crown deserves someone who knows the difference.

Has this ever happened to you? Tell me in the comments you are not alone.

You've been trying to grow your hair. But have you been feeding your follicles?

Length retention gets a lot of attention, it matters don't get me wrong.

But growth starts before any of that.
It starts at the follicle.
A Herbal Growth Spray targets exactly that.
To mention few, Rosemary, nettle, peppermint, horsetail these are not just trendy ingredients.
They have been studied for their ability to improve scalp circulation, strengthen follicles and create the right environment for healthy growth.
Rosemary alone has been compared to minoxidil in studies for its effect on hair growth without the side effects.
When your follicles are healthy and your scalp circulation is strong, your hair doesn't just grow, It grows with purpose and that's a very different thing.

If your hair could send you a voice note right now what would it say?

● Please Moisturise me.
● Stop with the heat.
● I just need water and patience.
● Why are you ignoring my edges? 😂

Tell me in the comments what is your hair saying to you right now?

Hair-lo July.
Let this month be the one where you finally give your hair the care it has been asking for.
Less heat.
More moisture. More patience.
More listening to what your hair actually needs.
Your crown is worth it.

What are you working on with your hair this month?

Tell me in the comments below.

Our hair was never the problem.
We were just never taught how to care for it properly.

Stop being afraid of your shrinkage.

I see it all the time women reaching for the blow dryer out of fear, not necessity.
Avoiding their natural curl pattern because shrinkage feels like losing length.

But here is the truth,
Shrinkage is not your hair failing.
It is your hair doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Your curls pulling inward is a sign of healthy elasticity not slow growth, not damage.
Heat should be a choice, not a coping mechanism for fear.
Embrace the shrink. It is part of the package and honestly, it is kind of beautiful.

A good stylist does not dismiss what you tell them.
A good stylist listens.
Asks and Adjusts.
Your hair is not something to be handled roughly in the name of just combing it out.
You deserve a stylist who treats your hair like a service not a chore.
That is the ORICAE standard.
